I think student-teacher communication is enhanced as children may not want to initiate conversation when they are feeling low, but posting a little token in a box is a non-threatening way of saying ";I'm not ok - please help";

How have the components within the kit helped develop your student self-confidence? I have a number of students in my class who have low self esteem so this kit served a specific purpose. They can talk about themselves in a more positive way and understand the importance of having a positive attitude about themselves.

How have the components of the kit helped develop Student-Teacher communication? It has given us a real purpose for relevant and meaningful discussion. When this happens, engagement is very evident. The kit relates to our Gospel Values of respect and responsibility which is part of our schools' special character.

How have the components within the kit helped develop your student self-confidence? Some students have become more self-aware about triggers and emotions that impact them, and finding ways to recharge and resume has been beneficial. Managing emotions tied in with the Zones of Regulation neatly.

How have the components within the kit helped develop your student self-confidence? I feel there is a greater acceptance of being individual, and celebrating who you are. The videos were so relatable and hit home for many of the students. I saw some get a bit emotional and this really made them stop and think about how they view themsel

How have the components of the kit helped develop Student-Teacher communication? The red letter idea was awesome and increased communication. I wanted this to be discrete, so had a box in a corner, for students to be dropping them into when needed. The students appreciated being 'unknown' when sharing problems.

“What an awesome unit to promote and foster self esteem! My intermediate students have thoroughly enjoyed working through the activities, and have most certainly developed a stronger sense of self awareness. Starting the unit by watching the video was very powerful, and immediately generated conversation. Checking in, then reading the charging station cards provided my students with many ways to increase their positivity and suggestions as to how to feel better. I loved how the families were involved, and the letter from a parent/significant person was very special, and something for them all to treasure. I have had many parents also comment on what a fabulous unit it is, after seeing their activity booklets. We have just completed this unit, as with Covid etc, we pushed it into this final term. In actual fact, with students moving onto High School, it was quite timely to give them that reminder that they are all unique and valued. Thank you to the sponsors, planners and coordinators! I would definitely teach this again, and am taking ideas from it to use in future with different classes.”

This kit helped my students immensely in terms of being comfortable and confident within themselves to allow them to feel a certain way. They became aware of each others feelings and had more control over how they would deal with it.

How have the components of the kit helped develop Student-Teacher communication? It has helped my students who are not too keen or confident to speak to the teacher about how they are feeling. It is awesome.

How have the components of the kit helped develop Student-Teacher communication? the charging station was difficult to use as we have some students who were very reluctant to share where they were, also with such a large class (several combined with one kit)

“We used the kit with year 4-6 students as the kit was intended, but it kind of morphed as we worked through it to a ";Celebrate our differences"; unit. The students really enjoyed the unit and I will definitely use it again.”
