One of the most impactful components of the kit was the letter-writing activity involving whānau. I received lots of positive messages from families who really appreciated the opportunity to reflect and share meaningful thoughts with their child. Many said it made them stop and think deeply about their child's strengths and character. The students were genuinely moved by the letters – it was a powerful moment that built connection, boosted self-esteem, and created a real sense of pride.
What is the legacy this kit will leave behind on your learners?
Through this programme, students have developed a stronger sense of connection—with themselves, their peers, and their whānau. They’ve begun to understand where some of their beliefs and self-perceptions come from, which has helped them reflect more deeply and challenge unhelpful thinking. As a result, many are showing increased confidence in who they are and how they express themselves.
