What cross curricular learning came about as a result of this kit? Used for oral language, written language and art. The paintbrush tied nicely into us making our dream cloth in Level 2 that we have displayed in our room

“A great kit with some amazing resources which were good fro prompts, challenging our imagination and got us thinking. Students loved the thing+that +for cards. Some quite hilarious responses . We used the question cards with our tuakana teina class. These worked well with most groups sharing with one another and some made a poster about their topic. I also used a couple for writing prompts. Time was the main barrier to using all of this kit's resources”

What cross curricular learning came about as a result of this kit? Making patterns and writing about then. Reading non fiction stories and then asking wondering questions about the size of whales etc (literacy, science and math)

“We found the exploring kit to be great to start conversations. The kids enjoyed using the tokens to make patterns. We have unfortunately only just begun to use the kit so are only just getting into it due to covid so apologies for the limited feedback! Thanks for another awesome kit :)”

What cross curricular learning came about as a result of this kit? Great links to Oracy throughout the unit. These were able to be transferred and used along side other areas of work and through different units we were running within our team. The different sets of cards and the dice were a great asset to the kit and use

“This kit is great in the sense that it is open, it supported what we were targetting as a team (Oracy and story telling.) We were able to use this kit to help us to explore a variety of stories in more depth as well as the stories within the kit. Due to covid we did not get to use it to it's full advantage in term 1 but ae looking at applying the resources into other curriculum areas.”

“A great resource which fitted in well with our topic "Our People, Past, Present and Future"as we explored how Maori came to NZ and the reasons for travelling into our area of Glentunnel which they used as a "passage way"to the lakes for food and the West Coast for pounamu. We also looked at how and why our school got its Maori name "Matai Rangatira"The students also made waka to show the mode of transport the Maori used.”

What cross curricular learning came about as a result of this kit? Loved the challenge to my Literacy/Maths 'default'. My students loved the freshness of it all and felt honoured in using their creativity and imagination every moment in class. History of Aotearoa in a kit...ahhhhhhhhhh ;)

How did you find the open format of this kit? In the first instance I had mild anxiety... and then I read the accompanying cards and ideas, and went to your online site. Loved it :) Was lucky enough to have another teacher who was working with it also. Also, seeing posts on fb was inspiring. Loved it

“What a great start for our student journey from the beginning of Term 1. This kit was like an adventure into the mostly unknown, that really sparked the imagination of our students. And then, as we continued with the stories, they were able to see themselves as the explorers and navigators. I love that my Maaori and Pasifika students heard stories that put themselves at the centre, and encouraged everyone (me included) to find out our own whaanau stories. The STEM cards helped to focus my young Year 2 people in their play, and open up their minds, using language and writing that reflected their imagination and creativity. Having the kit poster on our wall and activity cards in front of me, was a great reminder to embrace the Arts and Sciences. Thank you School Kit, for playing a huge role in starting our year off with a huge BANG!”

What cross curricular learning came about as a result of this kit? We were able to use the kit to inspire writing and story telling. We also had a go at incorporating digital technologies where the students coded a path across a map for their explorer.

How did you find the open format of this kit? It was nice to have lots of options, however I did find it a bit overwhelming as it took a lot of time to decide how to use the different components. Possibly some more suggestions for what activities to do would have been helpful. Thanks :)

“I enjoyed this kit over the past two terms. Due to the disruption of Covid 19, we did not get through as much as I had hoped however my kids really enjoyed learning more about the explorer Kupe and his great battle with Te Wheke. They loved the map and were really engaged when planning out what we would like to explore. I would have liked some more suggestions on how to use each part of the kit as it was the first school kit I have received.”
