How did the swapping of mail with another class add value to the GNZW experience? This enriched the experience no end. It also taught a life lesson about giving to others. My children realised that we need to do our best for another school. It was even more rewarding for us as we knew we were writing to a school in Christchurch at this
This was a vocabulary rich writing task, it helped my tamariki think more about the words they choose. It also helped them to understand that poetry can take any form and does not need complete sentences and to make complete sense...and it only sometimes rhymes!

How did the swapping of mail with another class add value to the GNZW experience? The fact that the students were gifting another class in NZ their work made them take that much more care, and they cannot wait to open their parcel!
Schoolkit you have done it again. As I sit here and reflect on the recent writing experience you have provided for our tamariki I can do nothing but smile. The conversations, vocabulary developed, and curiosity explored was awesome to see! Reluctant writers fully engaged in the writing process with 100% success was a highlight for me. The fact that they have a breakthrough and thought writing was ‘actually fun’ was the best part. I loved the lesson plan, how adaptable it was, and the awesome links, made the whole experience a breeze! I cannot wait to sign up next year!

How did the swapping of mail with another class add value to the GNZW experience? Was nice to write for someone else
Timing and sharing was fine but with my low writers this was a really hard task. The instructions could have actually have had a little more detail for teachers to understand

How did the swapping of mail with another class add value to the GNZW experience? Spiralled into a new inquiry project of systems including mail. My kids especially loved that they had an authentic audience, but getting the package in return was fun, too.
We're year 3/4 split, worth a young show so it ended up really quite challenging for us this year, but the activities were fantastic despite being a bit beyond us. I will keep the lessons for the future.

How did the swapping of mail with another class add value to the GNZW experience? Very good, class loved the idea of receiving mail. It did put pressure on us to complete the work on time.
We found the 18 word poem very good with fantastic results. I adjusted slightly to meet the needs of my class though.

How did the swapping of mail with another class add value to the GNZW experience? Everyone loves receiving a parcel so it just adds to the suspense, excitement and overall motivation to write.
This year was super exciting with the tin of items to inspire writing. The poetry writing was enhanced by practising the colour poem first and then writing our own colour poems. Overall such an exciting upgrade from last year.

How did the swapping of mail with another class add value to the GNZW experience? The chidlren had a new and authentic audience and knew that it had to be their best work. We are going to have to wait a wee bit before our class sends us their package (which is fine!) but we are so excited to receive other kids work! We always enjoy goo
I really enjoyed this kit. I have done it the last few years, and this one was a step above the others. The children found the poems quite challenging to start with, but ended up really loving them and producing poems left right and centre, and now sticky words are a part of our daily discussions! The teacher guide was well written and very helpful, and it was good to have the postcard template in there for drafts and for when we thought we'd lost a postcard. The free stationery is definitely a bonus too :-)

I have done the last 2 years of Get NZ Writing. I really enjoyed having a different layout and tasks as some had done something very similar the year before. The requirements and deep involvement required for this year was a lot. We are getting to know the children, their strengths, passions and barriers and having this so early made it tricky. This style I think would be better suited to later on in the term and due at the end when classes have had time to set up. The kit naturally causes pressure and I want to do it well.
