How did the swapping of mail with another class add value to the GNZW experience?
It was so easy with everything pre-organised. This is one of the only opportunities to connect with other parts of NZ for our kids. It gives a real purpose for the activity.
“I always love School Kit activities and have done this one the last few years. My year 3/4 found the particular activities this time really hard to comprehend unfortunately. They were reasonably good at finding the sticky words and loved the little items. The colour poem was fun but didn’t really link to the other tasks except for the theme of poetry. Perhaps the colour poem would have been better going on the poster? Or facts about our class like in previous years. This was a bold effort at a more creative activity for us all and I think in the end classes rose to the challenge. We love Warehouse Stationery for offering the stationery items and letting classes across NZ participate in something totally different to the norm.”

They always love connecting with another class around the country. Thank you to all the team at School Kit. :)
“The warm up activities were fun, but the postcard activity was quite challenging for my students. I think last year's class preferred their postcard activity more.”
How did the swapping of mail with another class add value to the GNZW experience?
The anticipation of receiving our package from our buddy school was great. Swapping provided an authentic audience. Due to this students really worked hard as they wanted to send high quality work. The students were really interested to see how the poems
“My class loved Get NZ Writing 2019. They were so engaged in the activities and worked really hard to produce quality poems that they were all proud of. The focus on 'sticky' words really supported their language development and ability to make good choices in the vocabulary they used. Thanks School Kit!!”
How did the swapping of mail with another class add value to the GNZW experience?
Authentic purpose, as well as something quite different from what we usually do. A great way to start our writing programme for the year.
“It was challenging and at times I didn't think we would 'get' the tasks. The poem was a tricky beast but loved the idea of 'sticky words' which we will continue to use in our future writing. It was also refreshing to have different things to share on the big poster. We do love whatever you create and send us, particularly connecting with another class in NZ. Very much appreciated!”
How did the swapping of mail with another class add value to the GNZW experience?
Very motivating! Provides a real life context for the chn. They up their game and commitment to the task because they know others are receiving it.
“This was a tricky one for my class because I was unclear about what the postcards would end up like. But by following the process we got there in the end and the outcome was that my class were so much more aware of sticky words. The follow on was that now they are much more aware of vocab in general in their writing and reading. A very worthwhile exercise.”
