What were some of the values that the people your students interviewed talked about? They talked mainly about perseverance and the stresses of modern regulations on farmers today.
The Grassroots resource was interesting to use for our students. The letters were really varied and helped our students see the types of people who are involved in agriculture and the range of jobs that are available as well.

What were some of the values that the people your students interviewed talked about? We talked about our school KURA values (Kindness, Achievement, Responsibility and Achievement) and looked at the wrap around values that contribute to these. So many were mirrored in the letters we read and the people we talked with.
As a school stuck on the northern border of Porirua, and the southern border of Kapiti, I wondered how many of our kids and families retained a connection to the land. I shouldn't have, it didn't take long for the stoires to come in, of families still involved with the land, still aware of the requirements that this can entail, and able to share the values that so many of the letters talked about. Our students enjoyed trying to find on google earth where exactly the writers had lived ( This took on a level of detective work and can be seen here https://drive.google.com/open?id=1xl9dp0WhaZkqMzaWHZwQyJOArVch5_jy&;usp=sharing Some students were even inferring from descriptions of the area and were hunting through online databases and white pages looking for family connections. It was awesome to see.

This was one of the harder kits that I have done with my class. We did it with our reading class - which is mainly top readers but they still found reading the letters harder. It still led to some wonderful learning and extension work for the children. They were fascinated to see the links and just how many in our space could be traced back to a farm. Like always - an extremely well resourced and supported kit.

What were some of the values that the people your students interviewed talked about? Perseverance. Striving for what you want to achieve. Determination.
We used this resource as a special side project for our top literacy kids. It was a great opportunity for these kids to work collaboratively and discuss their ideas and findings. Usually, these students race ahead and work on their own. It was a big learning curve and they rose to the challenge. Thanks School Kit!

Being a rural school, farming is very close to all of us! A lot of our students live on farms themselves or a family does. It was really interesting to do the activity to see how we were connected to farms - they could all connect in so many different ways! They enjoyed learning about so many New Zealanders - they weren't who they expected but they were really engaged. The interviews got everyone involved and ensured those that don't normally speak up had a chance to get into it!

A well resourced pack - unfortunately due to time away from school and unexpected interruptions we were unable to fully complete all the activities.

What were some of the values that the people your students interviewed talked about? Hard work Looking after your environment
This is an excellent resource. Though it didn't work very well in our newly form ILE as I had hoped. This wasn't due to the resource, rather than our environment and class.

What were some of the values that the people your students interviewed talked about? Respect, kindness, integrity, gentleness, helpfulness, accepting responsibility, resilience, being reflective, hardworking, strength, empathy, courage.
This was such a relevant and awesome kit. It coincided with a time we were doing our Calf Club preparations which was absolutely perfect. The children really got into the discussion about values on farms and were fascinated finding the similarities between values on a farm and at school. They loved reading the letters and thought they were so special. A high, high quality kit that was extremely worth while!
