“The Jean Batten Kit was awesome and fitted very well into our integrated curriculum. We had a Story Telling focus, and as Jean Batten was from our area, it was very contextual. It provided opportunities to have discussions about what the world was like back then and how flight has changed so much. It also started huge discussion about how borders change and that the world maps and countries change frequently. In fact, how "at war"we humans have always been and the reasons why. The students also did a lot of measuring, flying of paper planes, estimating and measuring the distance flown. Also, the reasons why some flew better than others and how they needed to adjust this and that etc. (technology). We made connections with ZOR (Zones of Regulation) and what sort of person she was - resilient, brave, determined, and with perseverance. Because the students asked so many questions with each new activity, it took longer than expected but the learning was deep and lots of things surprised me about the direction the learning took.”
