In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? They tasted some new fruit and vegetables that they may not have dared to try before and some have said they would now eat those fruit/vegetables
Thanks, it was an awesome kit. The children loved planting, some struggled with the waiting for the plants to grow. Especially the ones that germinated more slowly. They loved the tasting of fruit and vegetables. Some let their plants die during the holidays because they forgot to water them. As a teacher I had to take home a lot of plants for children who were absent in the last week of school. We filled in a calendar with the possible sprouting and replanting dates and monitored it regularly during Maths. Then worked out more precise replanting dates once the plants sprouted. We did 3D art of vegetables and made a display of a window in our class. We had interesting conversations about growing your own vegetables. Some children got a few more seedlings from New World. There were so many possibilities with this kit. As usual time restraints prevented us from exploring it all. We do have a veggie garden now that we are still learning to maintain.

In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? Learning through play - opened up opportunities for planting and gardening projects. Literacy - writing letters, secret coded messages. Maths - measuring the plants, the amount of water needed. Science - water cycle links
What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? We plan to further investigate garden to table options and to take part in making a community vegetable garden. Science opportunities looking at life cycles, insects affecting our plants, sunlight, water.
In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? My students have learnt about a number of plants they did not previously have knowledge about. They are more willing to try vegetable varieties at our sampling table now because they have made the connection with them being in the kit.
An extremely well organised, useful and resourceful kit which contained activities that I was able to simplify or extend depending on my students needs (being a year 1 to year 3, multi-age multi-stage class). The students all participated fully in the activities and were quite excited about the 'secret' club. The kit also helped extend ideas in our learning through play sessions. It is on-going as we are watching the plants growth closely. Thank you so much for a well thought out, planned and exciting kit!

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? Next week I am enrolled in an online course which will link the little gardens to the new Digital Technologies curriculum. Once the fruits and vegetables are ready for eating, their will be a whole new wave of learning to complete.
In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? Our plants are not ready for eating yet, but the children are making the connection between growing things that are good for us and eating them.
The children are so excited to plant and water their seedlings. Each day they look and talk about whether 'their' plant has come up. The tray to arrange the seedlings makes it easy to accomodate a large number of children's plants. The fact that it is a mystery what they will be growing until they open the package.
