How effective was this kit in promoting healthy eating in your classroom?
In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? Children wrote about their plants, shared photos from home, measured growth. Researched what plants need to grow. It prompted reading around plants and vegetables as well.
What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? As I mentioned above it has lead into learning about our natural environment and how we can enhance it. If we hadn't had the COVID interruption we would have been able to delve deeper into nutrition and eating and maybe do a plant to plate scenario.
In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? Due to COVID I felt we did not get as long as we needed before the break to delve into using it for healthy eating and nutrition.
I am a teacher of 5year olds and they loved the Little Garden League kit. We had a number of classes in the school doing this and my children loved being in the playground and seeing other children with the badge on like them. The plants grew well in the class although with the COVID interruption is was harder to start this and they don't grow as much as I would have liked before the school holidays. It has lead into further learning for us this term around, plants, the living world and lizards etc living in our school environment. I thought the matching game was excellent and it all prompted some interesting discussions around food, and where it comes from. This ties into the daily discussions we have at fruit break time around what constitutes a fruit or vegetable (Nothing out of a packet typically). The parents in my class loved this learning as it reinforced healthy eating and learning about growing food. At the end of the term each child took home 2 plants and we have had pictures of them growing at home.

In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? We used resources from Twinkl to support the kit. We also got out in the school garden and prepared it for planting seeds

My class of Year 2 students loved the secret codes and this led to some great learning. They enjoyed the club aspect of it and the freebies. It would have been even better if there were more teaching resources to support the kit - photocopiables etc

In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? Mathematical thinking in decoding, patterns. Literacy in the writing and reading of their application, and secret messages. Science in the growing of the veges and how that works/how long it takes.
What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? It was a great way for the students to take their learning home to parents and encourage them to explore more of the vegetables that are available. There is the potential for us to have our own vegetable garden and have the students take care of it and
In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? For a lot of the students they didn't even know some of the vegetables so it was really great to open them up to the idea that there is such a range to choose from, something for everyone.
The students were so excited by the whole concept of being part of a secret club. By far their favourite part to date has been decoding the messages but they are looking forward to watching all the seedlings sprout and grow as well. The hardest part for me was putting together the mailbox. In the future I would just use a shoe box if it were to come in the same format.

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? caring for ourselves and our environment
In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? It would've be nice to know exactly what was in the kit a bit earlier as then we could have made our inquiry around healthy eating... but trying to do the little league and everything else, I probably didn't focus enough on eating healthy.
We had a great time and the children loved watching their plants grow. A bit tricky with the tags as when these got wet the names washed off. The pledge actually encouraged the children to try new veggies and they would come to school and tell me about it.

This was a great school kit an the students thoroughly enjoyed planting. As a new entrant teacher the secret codes were a little beyond the students so we were unable to sustain the momentum that other colleagues with older students achieved. That being said it was a great week and theme for my students.

Thank you so much School Kit for such an amazing kit! My tamariki were so engaged in the whole process of becoming LGL members. They took pride in wearing their badges and were very serious about protecting their seedlings - even now after the holidays they're still talking about them to their friends! I noticed a connection with whanau as well when they began receiving seedling kits from their groceries. We had great learning cross curricular, the topic even engaged some of my tamariki that I've struggled to motivate. Having something to protect and learn about that was ";theirs"; was such a special experience for them!
