In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? As the children are only 5 and 6 year olds they have learnt the names of and been enthusiastic about finding out about veges and plants. They will be more aware of nuitrition and healthy eating as we progress through the term.
Loved the kit and the fabulous introduction activities. The kids loved making the treehouse, belonging to the Little League club and growing the new world pots. Healthy eating is our topic this term so the promotion has been a useful resource. The children have been finding out the names of vegetables and fruits. We have a visit from the Life Education caravan as well and hopefully the little garden plants will be ready for tasting before the end of the year.

In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? This kit worked really well with our learning through play environment. It was easy to incorporate our little garden learning into the play kitchen!
What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? We are looking forward to seeing what the children do next with our garden!
In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? We haven’t eaten our vegetables yet.. they are still growing. When we get to tasting our crop I think this will really help with student awareness of healthy eating and nutrition.
The kids loved cracking the code, planting and caring for our vegetables. It was so nice that our local New World came and delivered our own vegetable garden. We have this right outside our classroom so the learning can happen all the time. We can’t wait to taste our crop!

This was such an excellent project to engage my learners to understand the concept of how our vegetables grow and encourage healthy foods. Prior to starting this topic I had no students that we able to identify all of the vegetables. I now have 25 confident students who are able to recognise different vegetables at full maturity. I loved how hands on this project was and gave each student an opportunity to feel some sort of ownership over this project by growing their own plant, putting in their applications to become members, receiving their LGL badges and the weekly code crackers were an absolute hit. This project has linked beautifully into our inquiry of responsibility. My kids have been buzzing and are so excited to plant these in our school garden in the next few weeks. Thankyou Schoolkit and New World on behalf of Room 20!

In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? Maths - measuring and recording growth Science - Soil health with ph levels and nitrates English - reading and writing about the plants
What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? We plan on transferring the plants into a school garden.
In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? Some students have asked their parents to try some of the new vegetables from the kit at home.
The children really loved having plants grow inside the class and are excited to try some of the vegetables that they haven't had before. They loved recoding the growth and looking after the plants, as well as, learning about how to grow plants. They found the club aspect of the kit to be upsetting as more students wanted to join than there were places and this upset some so we had to cancel this part. The secret messages were also not very interesting to the students after the first one.

I'm a great fan of the Little Garden League Kit initiative and I believe that teaching children about the joys of gardening, growing food and flowers just for the joy of it, is a very valuable thing.

In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? Our class looked at how vegetables grow and looked at the things that they need. We also had to do writing, so we could join the league, we had to decode the secret code. We measured the seedlings and saw how much they had grown.

What an awesome idea. The kids absolutely loved the fact they were planting little gardens. They also loved the secret codes that we were sent. New World Waitaki were great and we got a little garden brought to us by the owners. Unfortunately we planted out seedlings too early and some of them have not survived but this has opened up the children to get their parents to to go NW and get their own little gardens. The looks on their faces when they first sprouted was so good.

In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? We explored many areas of Literacy (reading, phonics and writing), Numeracy (counting days and weeks, measuring water and soil), Science (life cycle of plants) and technology (making pots for our vegetables to sit it).
What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? We started to look more into where our food from the super market comes from (farms/ not just the shops), then we looked at insect life cycles and we do want to look at creating our very own school garden.
In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? This helped my 5 year olds understand that vegetables actually taste yummy and that they can be used in different recipes (not just eaten on their own).
My classroom and myself absolutely LOVED this School Kit. They were so intrigued and everyday were ready to learn some more. The kit was so helpful and supported my teaching in every-way possible.
