What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? We are growing herbs to sell for our Micro Enterprise group! The students are nurturing the plants and taking great care of them - watering and moving to catch the sun. The students are coming in to school saying what vegetables are growing in their gard

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? We have started a tasting lesson in our class where students are expected to taste the vegetables and herbs that we are growing. Comments along the lines of 'ooh we are growing these' have been great to hear.

“My small class of special needs students enjoyed this kit. They liked the initial 'applying to join the club' and the secret codes etc. The hands on aspect of adding the water to the 'plug' and actually potting the seed strips, was awesome fun. We loved coming up with a roster so everyone could water the plants on 'their' day. We liked watching for the little bits of green popping through the soil, and then being able to measure the different plants coming through.”

The children are very proud of trying new vegetables and try to outdo each other with the new vegetables they have tried. “My students were highly engaged and motivated by the Little Gardens concepts and resources. Their faces when they completed the task to join the club was an absolute pleasure to observe and they have particularly loved playing the vegetable game that you provided. This has linked beautifully into planting at home and many children are taking their learning home and vice versa. Several weeks later, many are still wearing their badges with pride. We have just finished transplanting their seedlings into bigger pots.”

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? Students are now aware of more vegetables. Prior to this kit the students could only name a few vegetables (Main one was carrots). After using this kit students can now name a whole range of vegetables and understand the importance of eating healthy

“My students absolutely loved this kit. They felt very special being apart of a secret club and getting their hands on a 'Little Garden' plant before anyone else. Students took great pride in their plants and were very responsible when it came to watering them. They were able to learn the names of different vegetables and even learnt about ones they had never heard of before. This kit provided many learning opportunities in a fun hands on way.”

How effective was this kit in promoting healthy eating in your classroom?

In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? We wrote about our vegetables and badges. They loved the songs and videos which were very cute. We used vegetable examples when doing maths too.

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? We are going to cook and bake with vegetables once our seedlings have produced and many pupils he bought seeds and are planting vegetables at home. Our school garden is a focus and children have been showing more interest in the lunch time gardening club.

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? It encouraged children to learn about vegetables they had not heard about. Each morning we discussed which vegetables they had had for their evening meal.

“My class were very excited to be part of the Little Garden League and wore their badges with pride. They loved watching the seeds sprout and grow. The seedlings have now been planted and once a crop is ready we will make some food using some of the produce.”
