In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? This was the perfect kit for us as it fit in to our inquiry ";Every plate tells a story";. Excellent writing opportunities including procedures for planting their seeds, and description of their vegetables. Good maths for juniors too - tally marking days

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? Greater uptake of children interested in school enviro activities. Students taking their learning home and sharing with their families.

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? Students learnt a variety of new vegetables and learnt to identify them! Encouraged them to try new vegetables they perhaps hadn't before. Great change from lots of sugary food which children are often exposed to!

In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? We used for isteam, Science, Maths, Writing

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? We did a unit on pants and vegetables while growing our plants. This term we are doing light and water conservation so we can tie that all in to the plants.

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? Children talked about telling their families and friends about new vegetables. They knew it was part of being a member of the garden league

In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? We spent days writing about our little garden! From our favourite fruit or vegetable to why we should eat veggies, instructions on how to grow them, how we planted them. We also used maths to measure growth, compare sizes

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? my class have showed an interest in cooking, learning about making healthier choices in their own lives so we might look further into cooking this term!

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? We have talked about what is important to eat, why and what isn't good to eat. We have a vegetable garden within the school and many of my students were interested in tasting some kale!

“Kia ora ~ on behalf of our class we would like to thank you for the opportunity to participate in this valuable Little Garden Programme. The variety of resources that have been provided have been excellent. The children (Year 1 and 2) have been throughly engaged in the activities at kura. It has been lovely to see how the activities have continued to home (by caring for their seedlings and observing their growth) and the discussions that have occurred with whanau. I think the Little Garden Programme supports us as an enviro school. Learning how to grow seeds, care for plants, harvest to eat is such a valuable life skill to learn for all our children.”

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? Definitely will build on this in the future and continue to promote it. Hoping to make soup etc from veges grown.

How effective was this kit in promoting healthy eating in your classroom?

In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? We were able to cross into writing and maths. My learners wrote about their seeds and we discussed measurement to record how big the plants were getting.

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? This has helped to build more interest in the school garden. Our school was very lucky to win a $1000 credit from Mitre 10 towards our garden. With the children excited to get planting and the extra funds our garden will be huge. Watch this space.....

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? They were able to bounce their opinions of each other. For example someone did not like carrots but another said they did and they would help you to see in the dark. I am hoping from these conversations my learners will be more open to try new things.

“Thank you for sponsoring My Little Garden. The students were highly engaged and motivated to grow the seedlings. They were fascinated with the growth and in particular how much the seedlings had grown over the holidays. The kids love bringing raw vegetables to school in their lunchbox to show they are keeping up their membership by trying new vegetables. A super way to learn about new vegetables and how to grow vegetables. A big hit with parents also. A big thank you from Room 4!”
