In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? We added in the science of what plants need, technology of how to make ";Torture chambers"; for plants that deprived them of sun or water or soil to see how they would grow, and got out into the gardens to learn about worms and weeds.

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? We will find out which plants grow best in our soil (Natural selection!) and which are the most popular (Maths - Graphs etc)

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? Children were introduced to a wide range of different vegetables and herbs, many of which they had not heard about before.

“This seedling kit and the decoding activities raised a lot of interest in the class at a time when we are preparing to plant our school gardens so perfect timing! It was interesting to use gardening terms like ";plant"; and ";bulb"; and find out how few children knew them.”

In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? This kit lent itself well to STEAM education and allowed a range of learning opportunities beyond the health curriculum.

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? Creating our own class garden. Exploring lunchbox ideas using some of the produce that are offered as part of the little garden seedling kits.

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? Children had a good awareness prior to the kit. I feel it just affirmed what they knew.

The students have opportunities to design a garden for the school, complete statistical investigations about vegetables and create their own secret codes for their classmates

After talking about why vegetables are good for us and why we need to include them in our diet, the kids were more enthusiastic about giving them a go and trying

“The Junior Room have absolutely loved participating in this school kit. We enjoyed learning about different vegetables and looked forward to the secret messages. We found that there were quite a few of us that have never tried a range of vegetables and now we can't wait to try some of the ones that we are growing. We also loved learning about how to grow vegetables and have enjoyed watching our plants sprout. Over the school holidays we decided to take our little gardens home and look after them then we brought them back to school.”

In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? As I said earlier we have used this as a lead up to our Zespri healthy eating and fitness challenge in term 4 and it was a great addition to our local heroes inquiry - we had farmers as a hero, so the reality of the children understanding that the farmer

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? The children are keen to take their learning home and grow veges at home. They have the prior knowledge and understanding of what taking care of them now means and what that entails before you can eat them.

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? Students have more idea about nutritional value and even learning about the names and look of different vegetables compared to the ones that they are used to.

In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? I used it in reading and writing. The match game was a brilliant reading activity. The children wrote there own instructions for planting there vegetables.

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? Learning about building vege gardens and creating menus in writing time.

We have explored science by breaking down the soil and watching our seedlings grow, mathematics came in as we cracked the codes and measured our plants growth, we have done heaps of writing about 0ur
