In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? They learned all about different types of vegetables and were encouraged to try new things.

“It has been a fantastic learning opportunity for everyone. They have loved the hands on learning experiences and being able to have their own plants to have ownership over. All of the resources were extremely helpful and meant we could choose things that were relevant and engaging for our tamariki. Lots of fantastic learning and engaged, happy learners.”

In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? WE enjoyed measuring the plants and predicting what they might look like when they grew.

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? We're going to plant an edible garden and try out making some recipes

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? Just introducing the names of vegetables was a revelation to our learners, they were most excited and still remember the different vegetables they learned.

“The kit really hooked the children into learning. Everyone loves a club and a badge. The children looked forward to seeing mail in the post box and learning all about each vege. We looked at elements such as science,what plants need to grow, how we plant them and why growing veges is good for us. Some of the children didn't know that we could grow veges and they thought they all came from the supermarket!”

In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? We did botanical drawings after learning about how plants grow. The secret club provided lots of writing opportunities and linked to our class inquiry.

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? It was beneficial for me to see how creating suspense can be an effective tool in delivering new materials. Students took on responsibility tending to the seedlings.

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? This kit opened up discussions with my class about vegetables and put them on a pedestal. For some students this would have been the first time that they had learnt about cauliflower.

How effective was this kit in promoting healthy eating in your classroom?

In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? I used this to support my guided reading (lots of factual books), we used it to inspired our writing. From writing factual reports, character descriptions and stories about the Little Garden League. We used it in our math's, area, shapes, measurement. Art

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? We are learning about biodiversity and we I have also used it as a stepping stone to introducing place based learning. We are using the idea of the kit to research and investigate native plants of New Zealand and how we can protect our plant life.

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? This was mainly down to how the teacher used the kits, in my class it really helped promote health eating, tring new vegetables, it supported our litter less lunch program and now it has led into teaching around sustainability.

“We loved this kit! Out of the three junior kits I have had this was the most engaging. The children loved the club and becoming a member of the Little Garden League. There was so much learning to unpack in all areas of the curriculum. As an Enviro school who has a garden to table established, the whole of our junior team used the kits (the school had 10 kits) The resources were fantastic and I have continued to used the kit to support our learning into Bee month, Green week and biodiversity. This was kit was brilliant and the children loved it!”

In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? Linked into our Writing Programme - writing explantations on how plants grow. Links into Maths- Measuring the time it takes to grow and the height. Linked into Reading- Read stories like the very hungry caterpillar.

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? We looked into food and where it comes from. How we can make sustainable food choices. Lots of the children are growing the little garden plants at home.

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? Learning about new vegetables. Moved into the food pyramid and foods we should eat lots of and little.

“This kit was a great link into our Food Inquiry this term. The opportunity to grow their own food was awesome. Super initiative providing enough pots for all children to get involved. Children got hooked by the secret club and the little badges. Room B1 loved every minute!! Thanks so much for providing us with the equipment and products! We LOVE school kit.”
