In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? There were some great readers on Epic which related to seedlings and healthy eating. It tied in well with our Garden to Table programme. Had I not already taught information reports, that would of been a nice cross-curricular learning opportunity.

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? Continue with Garden to Table as students will be able to cook with the vegetables when they are ready.

Students understand that there is ";good"; sugars in fruits and vegetables, therefore a healthier, sweet option for their lunch boxes. “My kids were so excited when they heard about this kit. The background story/set up was very engaging and the kids couldn't stop talking about it. It made them interested in trying new vegetables and getting out in the garden. Students were about to learn about new vegetables and research recipes that they could use the vegetable in. The Secrete Message was a great activity for students to work together, collaboratively. I liked how this kit was easily linked to our Garden to Table programme.”

In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? Science - Plants and life cycle. Maths and English - secret codes and card games.

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? We are going to continue to grow our veggies and plant an area of garden outside. We are going to look at Life cycles of plants and even grow swan plants and lead that into butterflies and insects. We loved it so much!

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? Many of my students didn't know that they could grow their own healthy food. They only thought that others either had to grow it or that it came from the supermarket.

The examples given above show how this kit gave them a sense of belonging and working together as a team to plant our garden. This kit also brought out unknown pass

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? Planting the little garden and unpacking what each of the seedlings were - students were able to expand their knowledge of fruit and vegetables.

In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? The children learnt science concepts around the living world and how we care for plants, as well as how plants grow. Cracking the code was great for letter recognition and formation as well as collaborating with a partner to get the message.

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? This was a nice follow on for us from our learnings about spring. We also have some new gardens being made around our school and this will give us the opportunity to do more gardening and caring for plants.

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? The children enjoyed learning about some vegetables they did not know as well as finding out what was a vegetable and what was a fruit. They were really excited to try eating some vegetables that they had not eaten before.

“My class loved this kit. We loved the mystery involved in finding out about the members of the little Garden league and we also loved receiving mail from the Little Garden League. The different elements that came with the set were great. The mailbox was always intriguing. The children were keen to decode the measages and to do what the code asked them to do.”

In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? Maths - measurement, fractions, ad/sub, problem solving Literacy - endless possibilities! Art - linked to our bee study Health - healthy eating Science - plant structure, living world

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? School garden is well underway and we are working towards a market day where we can sell products to do with gardening, and produce etc. Continuing on with learning about bees and their importance.

Had a class vegetable feast where all students had to try something new (if possible), along with vege dips. More vegetables turning up in kids' lunchboxes as brainfood options, and brainfood in general

“Kids were interested right from the start. The codes were fantastic, and some of my students are still wearing their badges everyday. The visit from New World was amazing, and their generosity (Waipukurau New World) and interest in our learning was so appreciated. It was great that the plants were quick growing so that the students could see progress without waiting too long. Lots of possibilities for linking to maths, literacy, art, science and health.”

How effective was this kit in promoting healthy eating in your classroom?

In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? We have been looking at Maori myths and legends and this we bought together with how Maori prepared and grew vegetables. As well as being an enviro school it has re-ignited our vegetable patches.

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? Planning and creating gardens, our children are now looking at green houses. Being from Taupo our vegetable gardens are hard to maintain in the winter with all the frosts and cold temperatures.

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? Children are aware of healthy eating and talking more with their whanau about how to be healthy eaters.
