In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? We used this kit to provide a variety of learning tasks and experiences in art, writing, reading, te reo and science.

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? Children are more interested in our school gardens and what we can plant in there to harvest and use at school in the future.

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? This kits gave children the opportunity to grow new veges that they may not have tried before, and after caring for them and harvesting them, they were more interested in tasting them or using them as ingredients in different recipes.

How effective was this kit in promoting healthy eating in your classroom?

In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? TThe code-cracker activities were a great literacy opportunity and we used the templates to create our own sight word codes as well. Our observations of the plants growing provided lots of opportunities for writing.

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? We can continue to look at our wellbeing, of which nutrition is such an important part. This kit has also sparked an interest in science and the living world.

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? It was great to see students excited about learning about new types of vegetables. Many students saw some vegetables, like betroot, grow for the first time.

“This was a fantastic kit loved by teachers, students and whanau! The opportunity to become a member of the league (with a cool membership badge) was a great motivator for the students. The seed kits provided plenty of opportunities for discussion and observation.”

In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? We used this across all of our learning. We especially loved using vegies for math and for art Ie printing and making patterns.

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? I don't know.

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? Being encouraged to try new Vegies.

How effective was this kit in promoting healthy eating in your classroom?

In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? We used our school garden to explore how many plants we could plant and they learned how to measure and to work out the area. Many wrote books and poems about your characters.

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? We inspired a love of gardening. I cant wait for the borage to flower so we can watch and talk about bees. Thank you.

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? We have brainfood time, so we combined this with how and why we need to eat more fruit and vege.

“Wow what fun we had. This became part of our weekly Discovery programme for Term 3 and our tamariki learned so much. To begin with many did not know the difference between a fruit or vegetable and they ended up trying many new foods from beetroot to pineapple. Our plants our now in our vege garden and being looked after by the class. Thanks for the fun story behind this, the class were highly engaged.”

In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? Didn't link so much with cross-curricular at the time due to the timing of the kit arriving and the topic at the time for us. But the opportunities are definitely there!

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? Lots of kids took their plants home and continued to grow them and learn about how to look after plants.

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? This kit helped introduce new vegetables to some children, and discussions around why we need to eat vegetables.

“This little garden kit was super easy to follow and use, and the kids loved it! They loved receiving their membership badges, and making their own plant. Especially when the soil expanded with the water!”

In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? Counting, measurement - Maths. We could have done more writing about it.

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? I would have loved to actually eat and share the kai together, but as I said it all had to go home due to the time of year and to be honest once I got mine home they didn't last:(

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? This didn't really happen, we talked about the vegetables but they ended up taking them home as it was the school hols and no one would be here to water them so the discussion got a bit lost once ththey took the plants home.

“Great resource, some things were a little confusing as there was so much to look at online but no straight foforward plan to follow so I ended up doing things a bit backwards. The over all concept was amazing but after the initial hype it sort of dies off and you have to keep them motivated. Some other options for year 1s would be awesome as the crack the codes are a bit advanced for them. Also instructions for how to plant them etc wasn't anywhere that I could see. It may seem straight forward bbut I had never done these before so I did do the first few wrong and also didn't know there was somewhere to put stickers other than on the little pots. The kids told me later that there was a book to put them in. As a teacher I think its such a cool tool but we are so busy we don't have a lot of time to scroll through and decifer what can be used etc so easy is best.”

“This kit was timely in that it coincided with ";Lunch in Schools"; commencing at our school. The kit motivated our club to start a school garden so that they could include vegetables in their meals that they grew themselves. This led to students investigating composting which led them to designing and building school compost bins. In turn, this led to the club reviewing its school waste management system, and establishing a new system that is aiming for zero waste being sent to the Landfill. An absolutely successful project in terms of the learning journey it created for our kids.”
