How effective was this kit in promoting healthy eating in your classroom?

In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? We used it to link into our writing and reading programmes. We also have a new school garden that links nicely in. Next term we are looking school wide at sustainability so this is a great intro into it for our students.

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? See note above about sustainability unit

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? The students learnt about new vegetables and we tried some different ones in class together. They could recognize a lot more vegetables by the end of our learning compared to the start.

“WOW! What an amazing resource for our class. Our students loved learning a out the different plants and how long it takes for the to sprout. The pledge, badges, mystery codes really hooked them in and they just wanted to learn more and share their learning with others. The website was a great resource for teachers and we used the stories and songs that were linked here. Thank you so much for providing these kits to us and also making them free of charge. Each of our students took home their seedling and are very keen to start their own garden at home. Most of them were also collecting them at home.”

In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? Our school wide topic was ‘change’. Growing a plant and sharing how it changes over time Linked in nicely to our topic.

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? The idea of maybe being able To set Up our Own school gardens at some stage.

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? The children were excited to set themselves a challenge to eat something new and grow their own plants.

In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? Graphing growth of plants. Looking for recipes to use vegetables. Reading about the new plants.

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? We are looking forward to cooking with our vegetables. We will look at grouping vegetables into families.

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? The plants are still tiny so no tasting yet but we have talked about the plants we are willing to try when they grow.

“My class are enjoying watching the seeds grow.They like checking which ones are faster growing. We have discussed the tools needed to plant the garden. We are graphing our favourite vegetables and researching ones we don’t know.”

In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? We read a range of texts that were related to vegetables, gardens and seeds during our Reading (Literacy) lessons. We also were able to link this kit to our writing as we wrote descriptive texts about vegetables.

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? My learners now want to play more seeds and they also want to try and make some meals that have vegetables.

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? This kit enabled my learners to talk more about vegetables and what vegetables they eat home and also vegetables that they had never heard of before. It made my learners more open to trying new vegetables and being brave! This was shown when we created sa
