“Thank you for the opportunity to enthuse children about growing vegetables. It created much interest among the students and they were keen to watch germination progress. Many activities to use, too. The necessity of growing indoors initially meant that the seed pot tray became mouldy and it was substituted for another plastic one.”

In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? We were able to research how the vegetables helped us to stay healthy.

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? SStudents were able to share with their parents how they had planted seedlings and some made their own vegetable gardens at home to look after.

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? TThey were able to have a better understanding of why vegetables are essential to have in our diet everyday.

In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? Through growing these plants we were able to write and read about herbs and vegetables and find out how these grow

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? Students have become more aware of what goes into their foods and how food helps their bodies grow

“We LOVED having the opportunity to grow our own vegetables and herbs in our classroom. Our unit of study at the moment is Hauora with a focus on our wellbeing. This project aligned with it perfectly and we even use some of the herbs we grew to create our own healthy lunches!”

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? Vegetables will be harvested in the New Year and opportunities will be given to share these with rest of school. Selling our surplus vegetables/pickles/relish etc to raise funds e.g SPCA. Also we will probably showcase our garden items at the local A

Children have taken ownership of our gardens and have a better understanding of the different vegetables we have planted. They are also keen to try vegetables that they have not eaten before once these are harvested.

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? It was a great opportunity to learn about new fruit and veges that we didn't know about, and everyone had a chance to share their knowledge about some that they already knew about.

In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? This became our inquiry unit for the term, so we connected it to all our literacy activities and used a lot of maths, especially measurement by growing a variety of different plants. We connected it to technology by creating videos and seesaw content. In

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? This unit developed into lots of learning about looking after the environment and the insects that help look after plants. We created bug motels that are now part of our school.

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? Kids now know a lot more about eating healthy and the iportance of a balanced diet that includes a lot of vegetables. Kids are very keen to grow their own vegetables, and as a result of this kit we have created a new junior vegetable garden.

“This was such a fantastic kit!! The kids loved all the hands on activities and we used it as a jumping off point for a whole inquiry on plants and bugs. THe kids loved the secret codes and being able to take their pplants home.”
