In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? It covered most if not all learning areas. I liked how it linked with our Matariki Unit we had last term in terms of sustainability and harvesting of crops.

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? We are going to look at how we can cook our veges and simple recipes they can try at home.

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? When we began I had students who thought fruit and veges only came from the supermarkets.

In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? Oral language, written language, maths, art-all very easy to link to this kit.

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? How big will our veges grow when planted in the garden? Which ones will be ready to eat first? Can we plant and grow some other different veges?

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? Reinforcing knowledge of healthy eating - most students know what is healthy. To have their knowledge affirmed is good.

“Most exciting guessing what might be in the mysterious box, then joy when we opened it. So much wonder watching the 'soil' expand and grow. Very exciting getting admitted to the special club then watching our seedlings sprout and grow. Wonderful language, art work and learning came ftom this. Thank you.”

In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? Health (caring for living things) Science (living things have needs to stay alive- water, light, etc) Writing (story of my life - from the point of view of the plant)

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? Other plants around our school- their purpose and care.

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? It has widened their curiousity about vegies. We have explored types a=of vegies and our opinions. We look forward to trying some next term.

In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? The students were able to use maths to calculate the difference between the growth of different vegetables. During reading they were able to make connections with what they know about plants and applying the new knowledge to the plants inside.

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? Looking at different careers. Exporting and Importing of foods in NZ

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? It definitely helped with their vocabulary. Building on what vegetables they already know and encouraging them to eat more vegetables.

“My students have definitely loved this little project. They have enjoyed reading and learning about the little garden league. The planting part was what they enjoyed the most and it was a perfect activity to do especially coming out of lockdown. I liked how it was a hands on activity which is perfect for my learners.”

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? We have linked it together with a Kaitakitanga focus and looking after our environment, as well as nourishing the land.

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? It has exposed students to more vegetables than most of them have come across. They have been willing to try and eat some of these.

“Right off the bat the children were excited about the School Kit. The idea of making as secret club hooked them in completely. My class has been very eager in terms of measuring and finding out all about the different plants they are growing. They have been willing to try new vegetables and have a more open mind.”

Writing experiences - explanation writing Reading the various books on vegetables Decoding with the clues this ties in with our digital tec

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? Further Food cooking and tasting experiences. New moto for our class is to give everything a try. Never know if you like of dislike things unless you try. This can be transferred to all subjects and try everything - building resilience.

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? Being brave and trying new vegetables was a great experience for the children, most had never tried radish, brocoli, beetroot or avocado (I know, but hard to believe right) - converted quite a few by the end of this lesson.

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? This School Kit has provided a perfect springboard for our school Kaitiaki focus, and provides plenty of scope for future learning. We'll likely get further on with a focus on healthy eating next term.
