“Fantastic resource. Students loved the whole premise especially that it was a secret club with badges. They really enjoyed solving secret codes and wished there were more. They have enjoyed being responsible watering their seeds and seedlings and measuring their growth. They are looking forward to planting them in their Gardens. The website was extremely helpful.”

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? the children explore more into what animals need plants to survive and wrote information reports on the different plants.

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? it has helped their awareness as they are aware of more vegetables and how they grow. Due to them being apart of the process they were more willing to try new vegetables.

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? My students are so much more aware of the health benefits different vegetables provide.

“The Little Gardens are a fabulous resource to incorporate into your teaching and learning programme. We have loved learning about the different vegetables, herbs and pansy flowers. Researching the health benefits has made some of the students in my class realise how important eating vegetables are. We loved sharing our favourite vegetable recipe too. Some of the selection of vegetables and/or herbs such as borage were new to us so we enjoyed learning how we could use borage once they are fully grown. We are looking forward to maintaining our pledge to the vege and looking after our plants during the holidays. Excited to see what they bring back after the holidays.”

In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? As explained in the above comment. It gave the students insight into the life cycle of a seed. Also linked to dispositions we are working on as we need to be responsible for the care of these seedlings.

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? Motivation to grow their own seeds at home. Look into how worms are helpful in assisting in plant growth. Worm wee being a great fertiliser.

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? We looked at the water cycle and also what plants need to grow

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? Willing to try new veges and learn about ones they already like

“The children were hooked right from the start. They were totally on board with being in a club and all wrote letters and passed their test. Badges were a real hit. Planting day was great excitement and easy to manage with a class. The plants grew very quickly and they have loved learning about different Veges. The codes were quite long for 5 year olds but manageable as a class.”
