We loved this kit. The children were so engaged, they loved the mystery element, and then all of the prediction and experimentation with growing and tasting. The code cracking has become a favourite past time and I am having to make up more challenging messages everyday. A fabulous fit for our play-based learning environment with all of the oral language generating activities. The activities were targeted perfectly for this age group...the kids definitely have a new found love for veges. Thank you.

The kids have loved this kit. Their plant's growth is carefully checked each day. They really enjoy solving the codes and they are currently designing their own garden characters using alliterative names. They were also very motivated to earn badges with various tasks. This kit has integrated very nicely with our Papatuanuku/ Kaitiakitanga inquiry.

In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? Maths - We measured how long each of the plants were after 3 weeks of growth. Science - We made predictions about which plant would sprout first - Little did the kids know that it actually said how long they would all take on the label. Concept
What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? We need more plants that don't take as long to grow in class. Or you could send us the kits in term 2 so that we have 20+ weeks to grow and harvest them so that we could touch on healthy meals.
In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? I struggled to go into depth about healthy eating as we didn't have anything to use to make any healthy meals. The plants all took to long to grow. I used it to make the class aware of the life cycle of plants.
I thoroughly enjoyed the My Little Garden pack as it wasn't just a one hit wonder. It required the kids to actually plant their seeds and care for them until they are ready to be harvested. We unpacked the importance of water, sun and soil and also a plants life cycle. The students update their parents each week on how their plant is growing and continue to have meaningful conversations in class about the progress that their plant is making. I did find it hard to go into depth about healthy eating when we knew that the plants wouldn't be ready to eat for many months.

It is lovely to see our tamariki taking on responsibility caring for their plants.

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? Students are beginning to talk about healthy eating, but as we didn't focus hugely on this area it has not improved their awareness significantly. We may look more into this next term.
This kit has been an amazing part of my class learning this term. The children have been totally engaged throughout and are so excited about being a part of a special club. Every morning they come in to check their vegetables and they're proud of their growth. There are so many different routes that learning could go in with this kit and I'm really pleased with the engagement and enjoyment that my class have got from it. In particular, the secret codes were a great way to bring computational thinking into the classroom.
