In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? Science in action. Caring for living things. Health. Healthy food choices. Maths. Measurement. Literacy. Reading instructions.

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? We prepared, planted, weeded and watched our 'butterfly garden' grow and it is needing some more loving care and maintenance which my class of 5 year olds are already helping me with.

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? I do think this will help later on once we have some veges to taste.

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? In their writing they wrote about how they were going to eat their vegetable. For example one boy wrote he would put chives in his scrambled eggs, another said she would make a salad with her lettuce.

“My year one students have been so engaged throughout the whole process. We have had some wonderful descriptive writing. Thank you on behalf of myself and the class for a great kit!!”

In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? This was easy science aswell as agriculture. As a Maori school learning about hospitality and agricture is an important part of growth. It also creates a strong meaning for Manaakitanga and Whangaitanga.

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? there are many opportunities when it comes to gardening and growing own source if food. It should be compulsory to do so in schools. It also has a special kind of energy when it comes to releasing negativity and grpund ones self.

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? When planting the seeds and making the gardens, tamariki where absolute amazed at how many veggies there where however I observed that the planting itself and the growing and watering of the plants where more fascinating than the healthy kai.

“This kit is amazing. The badges, play cards, the house even the plant bed for each pot. It all is amazing aswell as the being apart of a growing family of Gardners. The children definately were engaged in the process of gardening xx thank you very much. Around the time of spring is the most amazing time to start planting and tge tamariki can watch their own plants grow.”

In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? The little garden fits in all the areas , they could read about it , write about it and even tell their parents about their experience of eating healthy.

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? For the future we are going to learn about our environment and how to take care of our enivironment.

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? They loved growing their own vegetables and wants to taste it. They are willing to try more vegetables.

In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? Extremely effective. Maori language week ran in during this kit which made a great opportunity for us to learn the name of vegetables in te reo. We have sand about vegetables, drawn them, measured and written about them. The opportunities were endless.

Some learners also planted seeds at home and took photos of them, which was great. The learners asked many great questions about plants and seeds, oxygen and how plants help the p

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? Learning about vegetables and making them exciting. I have had children come and show me the vegetables lunch box daily for the past few weeks. It has added a positive and fun spin on healthy eating.

“This was my first school kit. I was encouraged to try one by a colleague. I wasn't disappointed. I loved the surprise factor of the junior kit. The learners loved the 'secret club' factor. It brought a whole lot of mystery and fun to learning. The motto worked really well too - the children got on board with 'grow, protect, taste' often mentioning it in their learning in other areas, making connections to the club values. The resources, research and complimentary prompts were also very helpful. The website had many resources ready to use which were relevant, age-appropriate and inspiring. The children were soo excited seeing the Little Gardens in New World a week later. They felt special and important. Many of the children started bringing extra 'Little Gardens' into class to share. Three students brought in the supermarket mailer showing all the 'Little Garden' products, they were so excited! The codes sent each week were also very cool. A lot of cooperative work happened whilst the learners tried to unlock the codes. Our plants are healthy, happy and ready to go home.
