In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? We often used this kit as a reference for our writing programme about their shapes eg corn or carrots. We wrote about them growing froma seed and watering them to make them grow. We discussed what plants needed to grown sunshine nd water.

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? We are going to grow sunflowers next term .

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? Learning about vegetables eg that you can grow your own vegies and eat them for good health

“Room 11 at Holy Family School In Cannons Creek, Porirua loved the process of planting seeds. From the initial mixing the potting mix with water and putting it in the peat pot and covering the seeds, through to the sprouting and seeing whose plant was whose and what they were growing. There was a lot of excitement and children had turns watering them and taking care of seedling. As we are a new entrants class with lower numbers there were enough for them to do the process at home in the school holidays. Will carry this on into the new term and plant some sunflower seeds next term.”

In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? There were loads of opportunity for Cross - curricular learning. They are keeping diaries of planting and growth. Graphs re watering levels and sunshine hours are underway. Poems about seeds and growing. Maths - Buying Vegies using pamphlets from grocery

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? Taking this unit all the way through Term 4. Have an idea fostering regarding making a connection with Vanuatu and looking at vegies over there, how they build sack gardens and setting one up here.

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? A lot more discussion around choices for Fruit / Vege Break. More vegie coming into school.- ";vegie snack get a clap";.

“This has been AMAZING! Really engaging and will definitely continue next term. We will take our plantings on until they are harvested. Students have tried some of the 24 that they knew little about. Their knowledge of different vegetables has increased so much. I do think this will encourage discussions in the home environment regarding healthy choices.”

In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? Science - living things and how to flourish new seedlings and help them to grow. Literacy - writing how to plant a seed and look after it Numeracy - how tall it grows, measurement

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? How to maintain the seed and grow it into maturity to then cook and eat the item.

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? We have brain break with fruit or vegetables every day so it was encouraging them to try new things.

“As a class we enjoyed the kit and how it was a secret then little bits were revealed at a time. It was highly suited for juniors and it fit with our learning for the term also. As it was nationally promoted also by New World the children had lots to talk about with whanau. I would suggest maybe a bigger picture of the code breaker as my 5 yr olds were struggling to understand it and read it.”

They are so enthusiastic about growing and nuturing plants and I feel like this project has acted as a springboard for a lifetime of learning and love for planting, growing, eating, and appreci

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? We have used this project as a springboard to taste and learn about multiple different vegetables. The children are talking about vegetables and are loving every aspect of this project.

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? Growing things, Spring, Healthy eating. How eating vegetables benefits the body

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? At this stage it is too early to tell. We haven't harvested the veges yet but it will be an excellent opportunity to try different healthy food.
