In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? This has linked well with: health and physical education, the arts, English and the key competencies!

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? Our children are now interested in how we can create gardens at our school where they can get items for their lunch if they need extra! We are in the process of trying to put this plan into place.

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? The children have seen how they can plant a seed and with love, sunshine, water and soil they can create kai!

“Our team have been blown away with how excited the kids were! Being part of the Little Garden League has been a highlight of the year and as we all know this year has been a bit crazy. So thank you School Kit for creating some seriously cool memories for our class. Our whanau have also been super excited about the growing and have got on board by fostering the children’s interests at home too. I feel as though this has brought our class closer together being part of the league! It’s something that would be really cool to do again! The kids have loved learning about all the wide selection of edible healthy treats! We bought some fresh veggies into our classroom and prepared them by peeling, slicing and grating to share together as a healthy snack! The kids then realised what their seedling was going to become and are patiently awaiting the next step. This resource is greatly appreciated by Durie Hill School in Whanganui and we look forward to our next School Kit experience.”

How effective was this kit in promoting healthy eating in your classroom?

In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? Writing descriptions, poems, writing codes, co-operative play with games, science behind plant growth, maths ( measurement of plants, time to germinate etc) just to name a few.

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? We are going to design our own garden for our class and then plant out and care for our seedlings. Hopefully we will get to harvest and taste our own produce. We have school gardens but will have our own to give them ownership.

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? The children now recognise a bigger range of vegetables. We are planning on having tastings of veges and make a frittata type dish. We will be discussing different ways we can add veges to their daily diet, eg in lunchboxes. They are all excited about gro

In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? Children were able to use their matching skills to crack the codes. Use the technological process of growing and caring for a plant. Designed and made unique pots out of milk bottles for their plants.

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? Healthy eating and healthy lunch boxes. Nutrition and why it is important to eat lots of vegetables. Children love playing the card game.

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? Children got to learn about new vegetables they hadn't heard of before. they also got to experience tasting some different vegetables.

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? One main opportunity is that we are planning to plant in our school garden and will be a lot of learning involved in that.

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? Students hav discussed that produce that we are to grow ourselves is healthy as we know that it hasn't been altered or changed in any way. They know that they need to eat 5+ a day and this has helped promote that.

In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? We are growing peas and beans in plastic bags for science, life cycles. Next term we are going to make Crazy Grass Heads using herbs.

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? Growing the vegetables and then making meals with them, ie Carrot muffins, soup. fritters, sandwiches with spinach, broccoli soup. Really looking forward to doing these with my year 3 class.

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? Lots of talk about vegetable likes and dislikes. Keen to try some untried vegetables.

“My class loved this project. So much so that we will look at what we can do to help support our new school garden next term. The extra seedlings we will grow so we can plant them in our new school garden.We also planted tomatoes and strawberries in our class garden boxes. They checked in with their little seedling pot every day and were very excited to see them sprout. We took care to give them a little water when they needed it. We made little boxes so we could safely take them home with us today so they don't die in the hoilidays. This is a great programme and I would love to do it next year with my class.”
