In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? My group used their 5 senses to write about a vegetable that I had available to observe and eat etc. They completed a brainstorm and then put the ideas down.

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? Many writing experiences E.g I am a carrot etc and being involved in our school garden. Recognizing a variety of vegetables and tasting them. Being aware of what a seed needs to grow and watching the process. Fabulous

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? The students discussed their daily food and shared the vegetables they eat each day. Many students have raw vegetables in their lunch boxes and are aware of the benefits of eating well.

“The kit has been a refreshing experience for my group and has created a lot of discussion about vegetables. They had to learn to spell many words to become a member of the club and all did well. I found the kit very easy to follow !”

In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? The code cracker was a great option in writing or reading. We also talked about how long it would take our seeds to grow so this linked to maths/measurement.

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? To get them involved in gardening! Our plants will be planted in our school enviro hub for future learning.

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? It has made them aware after saying that the members were afraid the different types of vegetables would go extinct. It is hard now for the kids to wait until the end of next term to be able to eat what we have planted!

“The learners enjoyed the planting and caring for their plants, as well as the challenge to be able to earn their membership badge. This was a great resource, enjoyed by all the learners. Overall it was very engaging and kept the students interested in learning more about the importance of eating and growing vegetables.”

“Students were really engaged in the little garden kit. They enjoyed seeing and learning about vegetables that they already knew, and also enjoyed building on this knowledge. Students loved the little garden league, seeing the vegetables as characters and utilising the website to find out more. We used many of the online resources to develop our understanding further. Watching videos and reading stories to understand the process and importance of growing vegetables. Students loved decoding the little garden leagues secret messages.”

In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? Lots of maths - graphing, measuring. Literacy - writing about our planting, favourite veggie. Digital Tech - using the bee bots to show the life cycle of a plant.

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? We have been very lucky and applied for some funding from our local Lions clubs - we were given $1500 to build planter boxes and purchase garden equipment.

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? As we are not quite at the harvesting stage I can't really comment. Can't wait until we can eat our produce!

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? Learning to repot the seedlings and eventually plant in the school gardens. Researching ways to prepare and cook the vegetables.

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? The children are aware of a range of vegetables. They recognised the vegetables that they eat at home. They also identified the vegetables that they like and dislike.

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? Haven't got to this point yet, but the kids are definitely more aware of different kinds of vegies/herbs they didn't know about before. They will look forward t actually tasting them.

“An awesome way to get kids excited about vegies and growing seedlings. My students love coming to school each day to check their plant growth and water their individual seedlings. I shop at New World so any extra seedlings I get, I put into our 'Prize Box' in which the kids can choose a reward for hard work. Even though there are various other treats in there, the kids always choose the seedlings! I also purchased some mini terracotta pots from the Plant Barn which we have been painting for art, so that the kids an take their seedlings home in them for the holidays. Overall my kids have loved this topic so much, it has taken over our actual class inquiry because this one is more interesting!”

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? Looking at the lifecycle of a plant. The question of where a seed comes from has started further inquiry for our class.

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? It allowed students to engage with the different fruit and vegetables. Allowed the start of the healthy eating conversation in our classroom.

“Children were engaged from day DOT! I loved that the teacher instructions were clear and easy to follow. As it was my first school kit I was not sure what to expect but was an excellent resource. The children loved planting and engaging in the little garden challenges. Was super easy to use across the curriculum too. We ended up writing, drawing, taking and taking photos among other things!”
