“My class absolutely loved being part of the Little Garden League. The club house was a hit - they loved checking each day for the next code. The enjoyed nurturing their plants and after replanting them into bigger pots, they got to take them home which they loved. I still get updates on how their plant is doing. In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? We engaged in reading and writing linked to this and used technology (the ipads) to monitor the growth of our plants.

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? We are excited to continue to share the growth of our plants and tasting them from home during the summer months.

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? Children were excited to learn about different foods they had not heard of such as radishes. They came up with challenging each other to try a new vegetable or fruit during our brain break time.

“My class have loved participating in the little gardens. We have learnt a lot about gardening and growing our own food during this process and are excited to be able to take some of the gardens back to our homes to continue to grow over summer.”

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? Students have added new veges to their vocabulary and are always checking my lunchbox to make sure I have a healthy lunch.

“My class really enjoyed the anticipation of opening the box. They loved the code breakers and they still love playing the veg card game. We enjoyed planting the seeds and watching them grow. The students had some wonderful ideas for how to entice people to try new vegs. Well resourced and very much appreciated.”

“Thoroughly enjoyed and engaging activities. The kids loved watching the seeds grow and the code cracker. The only thing is that we did find that the timing with the school holidays meant that some kids plants didn’t actually grow before then. The badges were also very flimsy and most broke within the first day.”

In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? We are learning about animals in Term 4 so the kit gave the students the opportunity make links to food chains and discuss the animals that eat plants and those that eat meat.

One of the students brought in his own little garden plants from home to share with the class as he was so engaged with the planting activity.
