What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? Science experiments - planting seeds in different types/quality of soil; giving too much vs no water; keeping in darkness vs sunlight etc. ; Making a vegetable soup using ingredients from our vegetables and herbs.

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? Unfortunately we did not get to use our plants for eating/nutrition due to the timeline involved. We will take this further once our seedlings have grown into established plants and then see if we can taste these (or use in some way or other to eat).

“Y1/2: There was great engagement in the classroom. Before joining the club, children had to ";apply"; to be responsible for looking after their plant. They also had to write about why they thought they would make a good member of the club. We discussed various ways in which we could lay out a garden and each child could choose which vegetables they would like to plant in their gardens. The helper of the day got to water the plants (unfortunately, some students got over-excited with the watering and we ended up with some plants going moldy). With the holidays approaching, each child was given their plant that they planted themselves, to take home to look after. The rest of the seedlings were left out in our Team Green Enviro group's shade house and watered occasionally. These were doing very well. We will get some potting mix and replant these soon into bigger pots. Children often share with the rest of the class how their plants have been growing (or not!). I believe it was a valuable experience for the children as they could observe and take responsibility for growing their own.”

In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? Used the coding exercises which relates to our digital curriculum. Promoted different activities such as; imaginative writing using pictures of vegetables as prompts. Also, spelling lists with vegetable names.

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? I would use the kit in future to: get the students to develop plans with vegetables which included planning of ways to use them in meals. Also, detailed learning about how to garden and companion plant vegetables in the students home gardens.

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? Absolutely! It sparked fantastic class conversations about healthy food and recognition of vegetables and how we may use them.

“This was a fantastic kit to use with my classroom. It introduced some children to vegetables they had never heard of before! The children were most excited about watching their seedlings grow. Having the club, with the pledge and badge gave the whole kit and extra appeal for the students.”

In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? We are using different key competencies when looking after our plants and talk about what type of learning is happening.

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? Could lead to cooking, maths, writing and reading about looking after, harvest and cook with our vegetables.

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? We are still in baby steps on growing our plants but are very excited to our little seeds sprouting. We talk about eating our own harvest and will talk about healthy eating in near future

“We had a great time plating our seed and looking after our garden. We have a little corner in our room where we have our plants and watering can and rules and treaty on looking after our little plants. Children came up with their own rules on watering and looking after their plants kn their own and help out when their friends are not absent. We are focusing on key competencies in our room and it links close to participating and contributing, managing self and relating to others.”

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? Maybe tone it down a bit for the younger children as the school kit is meant for the Middle school kids.
