How effective was this kit in promoting healthy eating in your classroom?

In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? We looked at the science needed for plants to grow but also the health benefits of consuming a healthy diet.

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? The students took the seedlings home to continue growing in their own backyards. We regularly receive photos of how they are going.

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? The students learnt about new vegetables. Each week I would bring in one or two of the seedlings in fully grown and ready to eat form for them to try. They were so brave!

“My class loved being involved with the Little Garden League. They enjoyed every aspect that the kit offered from planting the seeds to solving the hidden messages each week. They also liked the fact that they could add to their own little garden collection at home and compare their growth of their seedlings iwith our school set.”

In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? We learnt to take turns and share garden equipment when doing this. We also incorporated measurement into this activity with measuring out soil, and measuring water to water the plants.

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? Measurement for growth - and lots of discussion about the weather and how it affects our plants,

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? Children have learnt about a few more vegetables

“This kit was amazing - I was lucky enough to have assistance in my classroom this year who loved doing this project with my class. Unfortunately some of our plants got ruined during the 2 week holiday, but others we managed to put in the green house and are growing beautifully.”

In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? We tied this in with our reading, writing and science. Loved this kit.

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? As the seedlings grow it would be awesome to tie it in with healthy cooking/foods. Measurement (what length the seedling/plant is?)

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? We talked and looked at what is in our lunch boxes.

“This was a hit in my class, we loved planting and watching the seedlings grow. We also tied this in with reading/writing- Doing Jack and the Beanstalk. Writing instructions for how to plant a seedling? Looking at what a plant needs to stay alive.”
