In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? We had focussed on God’s creations and our environment. This enabled integration nicely for 5 year olds.

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? Just the magic of planting good food for consumption.

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? Lockdown hygiene take take some precious time away from planting and caring for this.

“Great for children to see their plant growing and to know what is needed for their plant to thrive. Unfortunately the children had to take their plants home because lockdown 2 happened. I did not pursue this any further.”

In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? Writing - instructional writing and keeping a diary of their growing plant. Reading - reading books to do with vegetables and growing plants. Maths - measuring our seedlings as they grow. Health - healthy and unhealthy foods

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? discussing recipes they could cook at home and where they will plant their seedlings.

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? The children have more awareness of new vegetables and are even exploring recipes to cook using their seedlings when they have grown.

In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? We were able to theme our LTP for 4 weeks around the garden and supplement with many fine and gross motor skills activities and even co-operative and emotional stations. We were able to build our writing and reading programme around the planting and relat

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? Writing experiences for the tamariki. I will be able to use the online resources for other learning themese through to next year. I love how they are free and that you can use them for other purposes. Especially our te reo Māori programme.

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? Their knowledge on food there are to eat. I think adding in real food and recipes would provide tamariki with the instant front loading and experiencing these products. Some have never seen or heard of some of our mst basic and common vegetables.

“I love all the resources provided to supplement and add to the story. Our new entrants really thrived on this. The card matching game is used most days in our class for action stations. The tamariki sometimes play for purpose or sometimes add their own flavour. We left the seeds until term 4 because of the amount of changes and new starts we had to the class but this proved more difficult than thought. So we would have run it earlier (in retrospect).”

We chose to use it as inspiration for our reading and writing. We started with reading Michael Rosen's poems ";Tomato 1 and 2"; and then wrote our own poems based on the vegetables we like

Children started to talk a lot about the food in our lunches, and every time someone had veges in their lunchbox, we snapped a photo and added it to our photo display. Children started asking for vegetables in their lunches so they would get their photo t

“We loved this kit in my new entrant classroom. Lots of the children had done some 'Little Gardening' at home, and so were well prepared to get started with this kit. Throughout the term the children have loved (and continue to love) watching their own little plants sprout, and they have all been taking such good care of them. How effective was this kit in promoting healthy eating in your classroom?

In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? Used the coding exercises which relates to our digital curriculum. Promoted different activities such as; imaginative writing using pictures of vegetables as prompts. Also, spelling lists with vegetable names.

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? I would use the kit in future to: get the students to develop plans with vegetables which included planning of ways to use them in meals. Also, detailed learning about how to garden and companion plant vegetables in the students home gardens.

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? Absolutely! It sparked fantastic class conversations about healthy food and recognition of vegetables and how we may use them.

“This was a fantastic kit to use with my classroom. It introduced some children to vegetables they had never heard of before! The children were most excited about watching their seedlings grow. Having the club, with the pledge and badge gave the whole kit and extra appeal for the students.”

In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? We learnt to take turns and share garden equipment when doing this. We also incorporated measurement into this activity with measuring out soil, and measuring water to water the plants.

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? Measurement for growth - and lots of discussion about the weather and how it affects our plants,

“This kit was amazing - I was lucky enough to have assistance in my classroom this year who loved doing this project with my class. Unfortunately some of our plants got ruined during the 2 week holiday, but others we managed to put in the green house and are growing beautifully.”
