How effective was this kit in promoting healthy eating in your classroom?

In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? We use the kit as a lunch pad for writing about fruit and veges, the code breaking was included in the reading rotation and we measured the amount of water it took to water the seedlings and graphed the results as part of our maths.

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? A lot of the seedlings are now happily growing in the vege garden at school, we have talked about when to harvest the carrots and onions etc

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? My students were excited to tell each other what fruit and veges they liked and didn't like, we did a tasting were students were able to try some veges they had not tried before, I noticed more carrot sticks, cherry tomatoes and celery in lunch boxes afte

“My students loved this unit, I used the coded messages as an activity during reading time. They loved earning the badges although the form to be filled out was a bit labour intensive for my 5 year olds and we ddid it over a couple of days.”

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? Our plants unit is continuing as there is a lot of learning to be had with this. Curriculum areas as well as attitudes such as patience , caring, thoughtfulness, stamina, perseverance........are able to be developed with this.

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? Our plants are still growing so this part will come next.

In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? For Literacy we have done lots of reading about growing vegetables and eating different foods including food in different cultures. We have written stories about foods we love, about healthy lunch boxes and we have enjoyed a visit from Harold and the Life

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? We are really excited about design thinking with the digital curriculum at the moment so would love some more opportunities to look at this. Thanks School Kit you are absolutely amazing and we love love love receiving your awesomeness.

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? As part of having the Little Gardens we ate our way through the alphabet exploring lots of lovely new foods that are healthy and nutritious. The kids are doing lots of talking and exploring with their lunch boxes about what they can include in their lunch

“The class absolutely loved and are loving the Little Gardens in our classroom. We still have them in our Classroom and are busy getting them ready to be planted out in our schools big vegetable garden. The children took their task of applying to be part of the Little Garden League very seriously and we loved the tasks involved in applying to be part of this. The children love wearing their badges but we have found many of these have broken easily along the way. We love the range of activities that we can do across the curriculum as part of having the Little Gardens in our class.”

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? We got our kit a bit later than others so this will be done in a couple of weeks. We will link this the the celebration of Thanksgiving.

“The kids really enjoyed the experience. It was fascinating watching them get excited and watch the progress each day. It lead to lots of leaning about seeds and growth- and into how to look after the earth. The mixture of plants was great learning for some children who hadn't heard of some of the plants.”

In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? Kept getting sent links for activities but website was hard to navigate and didn't seem to find useful activities that include the curriculum and engage/teach students.

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? More activities/teaching resources linked to the curriculum. Ideas for actual teaching and learning discussions, and to engage learning.

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? Not at all - receiving the plants where amazing but not much for actually teaching the students.

In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? It covered Science well and the cycle. Maths was also a great area that could be referenced here - measurement water and growth of plants. Calendar references for cycle growth timing.

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? Looking further at healthy eating with fruit and vegetables. Creating our own vegetable characters. Ways of cooking

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? Looking at names of vegetables and ones they like to eat. The vegetables that parents 'hide' in their meals was an interesting discussion.

“Such a great way to have children introduced to the growth cycle and support a healthy eating programme. Being hands on and able to observe the growth. Lots of discussions prompted and responsibility for watering and check the plants.”

How effective was this kit in promoting healthy eating in your classroom?

In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? Many opportunities with integrating science and writing. We did many observational drawing and diagram that were used to write descriptions and information report.

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? Creating miniature gardens, we looked at little garden and lizard sanctuaries. Looked into different types soil and different types of plants and how they have adapted to survive and avoid diseases.

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? It has opened up conversations with parents and peers. They now understand how easy it is to grow veggies and many have encouraged parents at home to start a herb garden.

“It was a great kit especially during spring. The children were extremely engaged and were able to link a lot of the learning to home and past gardening experiences. They could see in real time how it grew from a seed and showed were curious with many questions! Being park of a league and a club had a wow factor and because it has a purpose of protection and preserving they wanted to ensure they did the job right.”
