“The Little Garden New World School Kit once again provided valuable resources for hands on experiences in the class. Each child in the class grew a different variety of a plant. Resources and videos added to the Inquiry to support and provide information for the teacher and children. The children were very excited, growing and watching their plants' progress. In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? Discussions about how vegetables are important for healthy bodies-full of vitamins and nutrition. Children excited to share their learning with parents.

In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? Great writing from inventing their super hero characters using their names and a vegetable. We also wrote procedures. Linked with healthy eating and also how plants grow (science).

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? Propagation, the Sun, Water, Planning healthy meals.

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? The children were excited about growing their own plants, especially ones they can eat.

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? We had many discussions about the benefits of eating lots of healthy vegetables, even better if they grow them themselves!

How effective was this kit in promoting healthy eating in your classroom?

In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? We talked about life-cycles for science, what plants need to grow. We did measurement and estimation when talking about plant growth. Lots of fun art-based activities were also created. Writing time covered recounts, instructions and reports.

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? We will cover 'plants' again early next year to reinforce learning. It gave the younger children a chance to be involved in taking care of the school garden and hopefully they will realize how special it is and want to keep being involved in caring for it

It has made the children aware that there are things you can eat and they can taste just as nice as shop brought food. The lunch doesn't have to be a 'snack pack' from the dairy. “Our Little Garden from sponsored by New World has been amazing. We set our garden up in the class and the children loved watching all the plants grow, especially as they grew at different rates. Heaps of excitement when they popped through the soil. The special part for the class was taking the seedlings out when they were big enough and planting them in the school garden. Many children from the class regularly check on the plants! Our next step is to watch our seedlings and have a tasting time when they are ready. This should be interesting as a number of the children have not tried these foods before. Thanks to everyone involved from us :)”
