The children were excited to to receive the seeds and we planted them .However due to Covid timing our school production took over and we didn’t do as much follow up as normally we would. They took their seedlings home at the holidays. Thank you for the opportunity to talk about vegetables and growing your own. Suzanne

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? This has improved awareness, but didn't affect the food they received in their lunchboxes. They enjoyed tasting various veges raw during a day of veg prep for soup and making the soup. They learned that some vegetables need to be cooked, but that many ca

In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? Because of the age of the children in my class we were a wee bit limited but it did create some great oral language and inquiry thinking about plants The measurement side was a wee bit over their heads but would be awesome in an older class. Literacy was
What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? Healthy eating Bee Awareness Different types of seeds and seed dispersal
In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? Basically show children how their food grows/ where it comes from. Our plants are not big enough to try yet but hopefully they will survive long enough for this to happen.
This kit was fabulous we are still continuing with the activities as our growing unit began at the end of Term 3, my class of 5 year olds really believe the story of the LGL and wear their badges proudly. We cant wait to be able to plant them in our Community garden.

In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? Measurement / maths: growth of vegetables over the weeks Writing: Writing stories on their vegetables and also procedural writing on planing the vegetables
What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? Students seemed to be more interested in the food that they were eating. They also decided (a lot of them) that they wanted to start to grow their own vegetables. We also have a bit planter outside the back of our class so we were wanting to make our own
In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? Giving characters / names to all of the vegetables - making heathy eating more 'fun' and relatable
One thing that we found annoying was that the little vegetable name tags were made of paper so dissolved when watered. My mistake of not naming the vegetables on a popsicle stick though. The kids loved the secret codes to crack and ended up memorising a lot of the letters. At the end of the term, students all took their plants home and loved being able to plant them with the plants that their parents had received at home too. I was shocked that a few of my students weren't sure on all of the vegetables but it was cool to see by the end of it, students were giving their dinner / brain food vegetables names.

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? We talked about how to prepare and serve vegetables so they might be more palatable to children.
This resource was awesome, , the “back story”behind the seedlings was engaging and my class enjoyed planting and caring for the plants. This kit lead to more learning about how plants grow, life cycles and habitats for different types of plants. We also talked about how we could grow healthy food for our class pets instead of buying salad mixes, etc.

In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? Living world, science, health and well-being - linking vegetables to providing energy.
What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? Garden to table with our community gardens.
In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? Children were able to see link from the seed, plant and then vegetables that they recognise on their sandwiches and dinner plates at home.
The children were very excited to grow their little gardens. They rushed to look each day to see if they had grown. The code was appropriate for some of the children but many needed support to complete and then help to read the message. They had an opportunity some weeks later to grow more seeds and as part of the garden to table programme have become a lot more engaged with our school garden and what is growing.
