How effective was this kit in promoting healthy eating in your classroom?
In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? This can be used in maths, literacy, science, health, social studies and Learning Through Play.
What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? During our Learning Through Play children were often keen to volunteer to do different gardening jobs and feel like they were doing something 'real'. We can continue to develop this, now that we have larger pots that we purchased for gardening.
In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? I'm asking children to try different foods and discuss what they're like. Some children are hearing the names of foods for the first time.
I have New Entrant 5 year olds, so the planting of the seeds was the focus for us, and then watching them grow. They showed little interest in being in the club. Because of the Little Garden promotion, I have based my general theme, this term, around 'The Living World' (NZ curriculum) and more specifically- Spring. It's meant that the children were also keen to share their experiences of growing Little Garden plants at home. We've recently transplanted our seeds to larger pots at school. Unfortunately, the jiffy pots and the tray (supplied) developed quite a bit of mold, despite being in very sunny positions. My only real criticism would be the little labels. They were soggy almost straight away and fell around the tray. We really have no idea what seedlings are growing in the larger pots. I don't know how this could be solved because I understand that plastic labels wouldn't be good either. We're all loving watching the progress of the pants. I'll also use the resource as a chance to introduce children to eating new vegetables and herbs. The plants won't have grown to maturity by the end of the year but at least I can capture their interest and have encourage the children to try eating beetroot (for instance).

In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? The coding was a great example of a cross curricular activity. We have been learning Maori words for the parts of plants. We have been writing about plants and doing oral language activities around our plant topic.
What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? We will be continuing to develop our school garden next year - so this topic will remain part of the teaching and learning programme for the new Year 4's.
In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? Students have become more aware of the variety of plants that they can eat and the parts of the plants they eat. When students cultivate their own crops (and later on add them to their cooking/baking) they are more likely to try new foods. This kit has al
As always the Little Garden plant pots are a great success with students. This term our topic is focused on our school garden, so the school kit has been particularly relevant. Students enjoyed completing and earning their badge as part of the the LGL. They are still proudly wearing the badges. Each day, the first thing they did upon entering the class was to check the plants - a very motivating topic.

In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? Living world, science, health and well-being - linking vegetables to providing energy.
What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? Garden to table with our community gardens.
In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? Children were able to see link from the seed, plant and then vegetables that they recognise on their sandwiches and dinner plates at home.
The children were very excited to grow their little gardens. They rushed to look each day to see if they had grown. The code was appropriate for some of the children but many needed support to complete and then help to read the message. They had an opportunity some weeks later to grow more seeds and as part of the garden to table programme have become a lot more engaged with our school garden and what is growing.

In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? We were able to do some reading and writing around the topic of vegetables and healthy eating. And we even did some statistics to find out what kinds of vegetables children in our classroom were eating.
What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? We did lots of learning about healthy eating and healthy choices.
In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? Children are now aware of the different kinds of vegetables, some they had never heard of before! They were excited to try new vegetables and what things they could use them in.
We had lots of fun in the classroom learning about the Little Garden League. Children loved to learn about the vegetables and look after their very own member of the gang!

In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? We used it as a health topic and a science topic with germination and growth cycle of a plant but beyond that it really didn’t lend itself to any other topic.
What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? We talked about how the children could plant their own vegetable garden at home and they took their plant home with them before the holidays. We have a vegetable garden at school so now the children have a better understanding of what is happening as the
In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? It opened up the discussion of what vegetables children had tried and ones they hadn’t. We talked about how important it was to try new things and then decide whether we liked it or not.
I teach New Entrants (5 year olds) and they loved planting their seeds. It was a great learning topic for us as well. We learnt about what it took to make the plants grow and then we learnt about the stages a plant goes through when it is growing. The children loved watering the plants and then watching and looking for when the first signs of the plants coming through the soil. The only thing that created a challenge was the little signs that said what the name of the plant was became very soggy and ripped due to watering etc. I wonder if these could be made more durable.

WONDERFUL!!!! This was amazing from start to finish! The kids were so engaged right from the arrival of the package, to unpacking it, to each and every session that was planned for us. I have even got my learners wanting to do more cracking code activities. You inspired them to care and want to eat healthily, they were excited when they had the vegetables in their lunchboxes. Through a crazy year we have had, it was a bright, easy to follow school kit project. Thank you New World and School Kit

In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? We learned the Maori names for a number of vegetables, we learned about how seeds germinate, and used the seedlings to explore both non-standard and standard measuring. Some children also attempted to use their phonological knowledge to sound out the name
What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? From exploring this kit, I now have a number of New Entrant children who have joined the School's Gardening Club.
In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? The children knew that vegetables are good for you, but believed them to be something that 'had' to be eaten rather than enjoyed. They enjoyed the challenge of trying a new vegetable each week after reading the Task 2 assignment and a number of parents ha
This is an excellent resource for sparking interest and raising awareness/gaining knowledge and understanding of where vegetables come from, that growing vegetables can be exciting and that there are more vegetables on earth than just potatoes, peas and carrots!
