In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? Because of the age of the children in my class we were a wee bit limited but it did create some great oral language and inquiry thinking about plants The measurement side was a wee bit over their heads but would be awesome in an older class. Literacy was
What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? Healthy eating Bee Awareness Different types of seeds and seed dispersal
In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? Basically show children how their food grows/ where it comes from. Our plants are not big enough to try yet but hopefully they will survive long enough for this to happen.
This kit was fabulous we are still continuing with the activities as our growing unit began at the end of Term 3, my class of 5 year olds really believe the story of the LGL and wear their badges proudly. We cant wait to be able to plant them in our Community garden.

In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? Reading through a range of texts. Writing letters of thanks, narratives involving gardens/veges. Maths Measurement for the growth of the plants.
What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? I think there is plenty of scope to continue growing, tasting and learning about the natural world. We are also able to link into sustainablity :) Having the little garden led in well for healthy eating and making good choices, while trying new things!
In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? They were surprised at how many vegetables we could actually grow and were healthy. We loved the flowers too.
We were impressed how many different seeds &; resources that we were given...thank you! I used this kit with the new 5 year olds just starting school, so some of the resources were a bit tricky for them, but we enjoyed using them in our own way.

In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? Great links to maths - measuring the growth of our seeds, measuring the amount of water we give our seeds, capacity and volume. Science - living world - what is required for seeds to germinate and grow. It also led to inquiry into the best season to grow
What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? We are continuing to look at the earth and its relationship to the sun and moon. We referred back to our knowledge of Matariki and Maori knowledge of our earth. We are starting to look at the classifying different types of plants - some grow above the gro
In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? Our inquiry for the last 2 terms focused on creating a rubbish free school - which involved looking at the food we bring in our lunch boxes. This kit built on our inquiry in healthy eating, and gave us the opportunity to try many of the healthy foods that
Another amazing kit from School kit. This kit excited and engaged all students in my Year 3/4/5 class. They were so excited to belong to a secret club and were even more surprised to find out that our principal was a member, when she came to present their badges. The students nurtured their seeds well and learnt to work collaboratively to water them, make sure they got enough sun, and keep them safe. The students were able to plant their seeds in our ";garden to table"; garden and continue to see them grow. I loved enthusiasm this kit generated in my class. Thank you school kit and New world.

In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? Living world, science, health and well-being - linking vegetables to providing energy.
What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? Garden to table with our community gardens.
In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? Children were able to see link from the seed, plant and then vegetables that they recognise on their sandwiches and dinner plates at home.
The children were very excited to grow their little gardens. They rushed to look each day to see if they had grown. The code was appropriate for some of the children but many needed support to complete and then help to read the message. They had an opportunity some weeks later to grow more seeds and as part of the garden to table programme have become a lot more engaged with our school garden and what is growing.

In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? We used it as a health topic and a science topic with germination and growth cycle of a plant but beyond that it really didn’t lend itself to any other topic.
What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? We talked about how the children could plant their own vegetable garden at home and they took their plant home with them before the holidays. We have a vegetable garden at school so now the children have a better understanding of what is happening as the
In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? It opened up the discussion of what vegetables children had tried and ones they hadn’t. We talked about how important it was to try new things and then decide whether we liked it or not.
I teach New Entrants (5 year olds) and they loved planting their seeds. It was a great learning topic for us as well. We learnt about what it took to make the plants grow and then we learnt about the stages a plant goes through when it is growing. The children loved watering the plants and then watching and looking for when the first signs of the plants coming through the soil. The only thing that created a challenge was the little signs that said what the name of the plant was became very soggy and ripped due to watering etc. I wonder if these could be made more durable.
