How successful was this kit in promoting student ability to identify vegetables? Massive impact!
We have just finished this off in the last week :-) I was incredibly surprised at the beginning of the unit how many of my class didn't know even half of the vegetable names! Well we quickly fixed that. Their favourite part was the game. Wow this was so effective and really got them to remember the vege names pretty quickly. We are a long way from the nearest New World so the plants were a cute treat. They were very lovingly tended to!

How successful was this kit in promoting student ability to identify vegetables? Very well as they play a game on Teach Your Monster to Read and they have a healthy eating game and the children loved seeing their 'foods' in the game.
The children loved the excitement of opening the kit and learning about new plants. They loved being part of a Secret Club - they thought it was fab. They all loved growing their plants and all of them grew so that was even better. It tied in perfectly with a new game we were playing as well. Thanks so much!

What cross curricular learning came about as a result of this kit? It tied in with our inquiry unit perfectly which was around food and where it comes from. The game was great to use during literacy time as well as looking at the growth of our plants in maths.

In what ways has this kit improved student awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? Students were more willing to try new foods and now understand that our food looks quite different before it gets to the supermarket. My students are quite excited to start their own gardens at home.
How successful was this kit in promoting student ability to identify vegetables? It was great to expose my students to vegetables that they might not have been exposed to before. Students really enjoyed the characters that were associated with the vegetables.
I love this kit! It is hands on and my students love how interactive it is. It is completely child friendly with the fun vegetable characters and gains my students interest fast being part of the 'club'. It is nice to see the students excited about the growth of their plants and in turn being proud to share their plants with their parents.

How successful was this kit in promoting student ability to identify vegetables? They children learnt a lot about a specific plant and then presented their findings back to the class
The children loved being about to physically plant and then replant the plants. It was great learning in what plants need to grow and then looking at the differences between the pots and ground. The children LOVED the badges! We looking at the veges and what we could make to with them. Made up recipes and had a go at making stuff potatoes.

In what ways has this kit improved student awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? They have loved making different salads etc
How successful was this kit in promoting student ability to identify vegetables? We are a farming community, so the students knew a couple of vegetables (root vege, and kale/spinach) in their plant form, but this really extended their knowledge especially for eggplants and capsicums.
The kids have been really engaged, and have loved learning about plants and their life cycle patterns.

We have enjoyed planting out the seeds. They are growing well at school and at the children's homes. It is amazing how much we are all learning about how to look after the plants and recipes for how to use the plants.

What cross curricular learning came about as a result of this kit? We used maths - how many days to germinate, which was growing fastest. We wrote about our experiences of tasting new veges. We did some visual art showing veges that grow above and below ground.

In what ways has this kit improved student awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? I don't think the kit did this very much; encouraging the children to try new foods probably did this more.
How successful was this kit in promoting student ability to identify vegetables? Limited - tasting was more effective than growing to be honest - see my feedback about vouchers.
I love the premise of this kit, and my students were really excited to work through it. We have some interesting veges growing in our school garden as a result, and a few students have convinced their parents to give them a garden at home. Things I would have liked: I feel like I recall previous iterations of the kit had a $20 New World voucher in them. This would have been really appreciated as none of the veges will be ready to harvest before the end of the school year, and would have meant that I could have encouraged students to try some new veges (Ok, I actually did this anyway, but it would have been nice to not have to pay for it out of my own pocket!). I would have liked differentiated learning materials, particularly the clubhouse application form which even my most able Year 2 writers could not complete independently (it took 3 adults 1 1/2 hours to support my whole class through this!). I felt that everything was at a Year 3 or higher level - the code cracking was torturous and I gave up after 2 attempts. I didn't find the web materials easy to use, or to share with my student teacher (the changes you made to this came too late for me as a T3 kit user). It was hard to find what I wanted when I wanted, I couldn't make anything be full screen so I could read it without scrolling, and every link I clicked should have opened a new tab instead of redirecting me. I am unlikely to do another School Kit unless you're able to put together a PDF teacher guide - it's just more user friendly for me.
