How successful was this kit in promoting student ability to identify vegetables? We didn't do this as well as we could and if I was to do it again I would make slides to add to the morning routine and learn 3-4 vegetables a week.
Students loved seeing things grow and also seeing what happened when we forgot to move the plants from in front of the window over a long weekend.

Getting the Little Garden kit at the start of the term was a great way to hook my class into learning about growing plants from seeds. We have planted them in our school gardens. It also lead to learning about when to plant, what to plant together, crop rotation and companion planting and from garden to plate. My students had fun planting the little gardens and watching them grow. Thanks for providing such a great resource.

What cross curricular learning came about as a result of this kit? Tamariki decided to create a whole inquiry around their little gardens and how to care for the environment. We used out little gardens for writing and maths (great links to science too)

What cross curricular learning came about as a result of this kit? Science (living world need s of plants, differences between seeds and bulbs), writing ( explanations, observations, lists), maths (Predicting heights, numbers that would grow, volume of water to be poured on etc).

In what ways has this kit improved student awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? It made many aware of the wide variety of vegetables available.
How successful was this kit in promoting student ability to identify vegetables? Many had not seen or even heard of swedes or turnips and were fascinated by the leaves on things they did know such as carrots and broccoli.
The children really enjoyed planting these seeds and watching them grow, with the Helper of the Day being responsible for watering them and ensuring that all the pots were rotated to ensure even sunshine. Some had used them before, others had not and had to learn how to plant seeds. The condensed soil tablets were fascinating to watch as they expanded, with some students spending more time watching than planting!

How successful was this kit in promoting student ability to identify vegetables? high level of impact - hands on and children each had their own vegetable to focus on and look after - so learnt about their own and their friends . Most children could tell me who had what vegetable and they could identify them .
Fun hands on activities that capture the children's interests.

In what ways has this kit improved student awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? It has improved their understanding of where their vegetables come from. Many students have been inspired to try the vegetables they have grown and have told me they now really like them.
How successful was this kit in promoting student ability to identify vegetables? The students gained an understanding of germination time and just how easy it is to plant vegetables.
My students loved the little garden school kit! They begged to begin and were very engaged.

What cross curricular learning came about as a result of this kit? We tied this into measurement in Maths, lots of prompts for writing, healthy foods in Health and in Science we looked at the cycle of a plant and what a plant needs to thrive.

In what ways has this kit improved student awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? A few children who were self-proclaimed "vegetable haters' tried a new vegetable from the school garden and while not everyone liked all we celebrated trying new foods.

Was a big hit with the class. Having the resources for all to have an opportunity to have a plant to care for and allowed plenty of conversations throughout the day between children around the plants.
