What cross curricular learning came about as a result of this kit? We completed lots of writing and reading around plants, as well as making it our poem focus for a few weeks (visual language). It became our inquiry focus, and I can see the links that could have been made for maths, and technology, however we didn't cove

In what ways has this kit improved student awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? Children can understand the value of the veges, most were willing to try some, however others were less adventurous and not willing to expand their palate.
How successful was this kit in promoting student ability to identify vegetables? Our ability to ID veges was not high, but this might have been caused by our short length of time o the kit due to the teacher taking and extended period of medical leave.
The Little Garden kit was an awesome resource to get children thinking about how plants grow, and the positive effect food can have on our bodies when we eat the right stuff. We were able to link our learning to our community, by linking with our nearby marae, and gifting some of our little gardens to our community. Attached are some pictures of us connecting with the local marae to report our little gardens, to distribute to our community.

What cross curricular learning came about as a result of this kit? We made diary's for our plants to track growth, we measured how high our plants grew and we did some plant based art.

In what ways has this kit improved student awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? We have fruit breaks at school and this has encouraged children to try something else and if they enjoyed it they have gone home and asked if they could have it in their lunch for our fruit breaks. I had one student who doesn't eat any fruits or vegetable
How successful was this kit in promoting student ability to identify vegetables? The children were pretty good at recognising fruits and vegtables before we began. Some of them didn't know all of them so we googled to find out if it was a fruit or a vegetable and how it grew.
My class of Year 2's enjoyed this as part of our topic. They enjoyed doing the code crackers, planting and trying new vegetables. For myself, I found the website hard to navigate and got lost trying to find things.

We used explanation writing to describe what we observed as the plants sprouted, extended our knowledge of vegetables we weren't familiar with (borage). In what ways has this kit improved student awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? The students already had a good knowledge about healthy eating and this project reinforced the need for healthy eating while trying new things and having an open mind.
How successful was this kit in promoting student ability to identify vegetables? Most children had some knowledge of the types of vegetables, yet a few from the project were new and they were encouraged to try a new vegetable to eat.

In what ways has this kit improved student awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? They are aware of healthy food and trying food/vegetables they have not tried before. They were very excited about using herbs in salad including some edible flowers. Students know to eat the healthy part of their lunch boxes first and that they don't hav
How successful was this kit in promoting student ability to identify vegetables? A large impact especially for herbs eg: Borage, coriander, The students did not know about herbs and how important they are especially plants like borage.
Little Gardens League. The class were very excited about the little gardens. We talked about the club and decoded the message together. The conversation led to discussing what is healthy food, and what vegetables could go in the lunch box. Using the club information, FOR MATHS, we asked the question "what is room 7's favourite vegetable to eat and created a tally chart and graphs. FOR SCIENCE, a question was asked 'How are seeds made?" the class researched and wrote information reports about fertilisation which they took home. The parents started to send photos of vegetables at home or photos of the little garden plants growing in home gardens. We also put some of the plants in pots outside our classroom and in our school garden. The students water and weed the pots and garden. I will send the badges home with the students in a few weeks after we have finished working together as a team to nuture and grow the pots and school garden a little more.

In what ways has this kit improved student awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? We didn’t really use it for healthy eating…but integrated it into our Science (Living world) and technology (invention by need/design) learning.
How successful was this kit in promoting student ability to identify vegetables? They knew lots more names but we didn’t get a chance to eat them at school. I had to send plants home at the end of Term 3.
Hi, Sorry for late feedback as I am very computer challenged . Wasn’t sure where to send. So the kit was awesome…it fitted very neatly with our science and technology inquiry for term 3 2022. So my tamariki (New Entrants)were learning what a plant needs to grow….and how to use simple garden implements to help make gardening easier. I did not do the secret codes and drama play with my children only because I had a very busy term….I bet my children would have loved it though if I had time to organise and knew how to follow the links and plans(people/tech challenged me). What we did do was set up our little garden clubhouse and after we checked the best growing conditions for a plant through our science investigations….we each received our own little garden pot and we looked after our plants with sun, soil and water (which is what our earlier investigations showed us were the best growing conditions). Each child’s pot grew and were ready to be taken home at the end of term 3. We also made a school garden and used rakes, watering cans, hoses and spades to help grow other plants…from seeds/seedlings brought from home. The children were all thrilled that they got to take their very own plant home to show their whanau. So for me to follow your amazing plans and role play activities…I need the whole book and information at the start of a unit. Especially with growing as it takes a while for plants to sprout…but I also needed to do our experiments (school requirement) to investigate best conditions before using the kit. We also couldn’t keep the plants at school because of holidays and no one to water garden etc…hence why they were sent home last week of school as well….though the children loved it…was like getting a present.

In what ways has this kit improved student awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? All the children tried the veges and herbs that we gave them to taste, however, this has not necessarily transferred to home. At 5 years old the children do not always get a lot of say about what is put on their plates, however, I hope that they are build
How successful was this kit in promoting student ability to identify vegetables? I think the children were able to recognise commonly used vegetables easier, although some of the less common ones and the herbs were not so familiar to the children.
The secret mission idea was great and it really hooked the children in. Some of our plants did not grow which was a little disappointing for some children as they were watching their peers plants grow (even though we followed the instructions to the letter). The children loved the code crackers and even at 5 years old, they were accessible and easy to follow. We did a taste of different veges/herbs and every single child tried each one we put to them - love peer pressure. It would be great to see perhaps fewer variety that are faster growing than the wide variety that we had. On the whole though the unit was fantastic.

In what ways has this kit improved student awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? They have a bit more understanding of why we should eat vegetables. How we can help the planet, less plastic as we had just finished the sea cleaners kit last term so this made a great connection. Food from the planet is better than the packet.
How successful was this kit in promoting student ability to identify vegetables? The kids have become more confident in naming vegetables and identifying them in our school garden also. They have been more in trying some of the veges in the garden.
Kids loved planting the seeds and watching them grow.

What cross curricular learning came about as a result of this kit? We linked in our Inquiry into the development of our school buildings and gardens, plant lifecycles and writing instructions. Thank you for this resource and I will definitely be looking at more kits next year once we have the year's overview finalised.

In what ways has this kit improved student awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? We probably didn't focus on this enough unfortunately.
How successful was this kit in promoting student ability to identify vegetables? It was surprising how little knowledge the children had at the start. They loved playing the card game.
The children have loved the Little Gardens. We have planted some in the garden area at the back of our hub and as children had also collected more privately, we were able to give them another one to take home.
