In what ways has this kit improved student awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? Again we did not make obvious links to healthy eating. We get school lunches provided so this is a good opportunity to link what they are growing to what they may find in their school lunches. Hopefully this may change their minds about some of the vegeta
How successful was this kit in promoting student ability to identify vegetables? This is a link we did not make and if we have time, something we can look at.
Thank you for our Little Gardens. Our topic for Term 3 was our school environment and how we can protect it. We looked closely at the plant and bird life in the school grounds which we then linked into the Little Gardens. The children were very excited about planting their seeds. They were disappointed the next day when nothing was growing!!! We drew pictures day 1. By the following week many of the plants had sprouted - Oh the excitement! Checking our plants became a daily habit and every week we would draw them (like a diary). We re-potted some of them as they grew rapidly. We plan for the children to take them home at the end of the term. The Little Gardens allowed for lots of new oral language in the classroom. Also because some of the plants grew quickly it really kept all the children engaged and interested. I guess the next link for us will be 'healthy eating'. The questions below linking to healthy lunches and naming vegetables could probably be made a bit clearer when receiving the kit as this would be a great topic to do at the same time to make links to their plants.

In what ways has this kit improved student awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? I think my class were already quite aware of this, which was a nice surprise! Each week i have been bringing in a different vegetable for them to try. I would only ever have a max of two children who didn't try it, which was great. It took a lot of encour
How successful was this kit in promoting student ability to identify vegetables? At this stage I haven't noticed too much of a difference, however we are only on week 3 of this unit. We still have 4 more sessions to go and I think we will notice a difference after this
I have done this kit before but actually preferred it this time. I really liked the website that had links to everything and different lesson ideas. It was easy to use and efficient. My class were really engaged and we are still doing work as apart of the little garden league. We started it in Term 4 also. Such a fun kit!

In what ways has this kit improved student awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? We had a tasting session where I went and bought some of the vegetables that they had planted seeds for: pak choy, radish, spinach, carrot. We talked about the importance of eating veges and trying some new veges. Some were very reluctant but I was very i
How successful was this kit in promoting student ability to identify vegetables? I think the children improved somewhat but I could have done better with this in the teaching. It was cool to have the characters. I would have liked to see actual photos of the vegetables as well as the characters.
My class (Y2) really enjoyed this kit. They really bought into the Little Garden League narrative and had fun solving the clues, planting their seedlings and tasting some new vegetables. Thanks for the learning and the fun!

What cross curricular learning came about as a result of this kit? It linked well with science last term. We also could ask students to keep diaries for their plants which ended up being a great writing activity. We were able to read books about planting and plants which further developed student interest.

In what ways has this kit improved student awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? yes, they are willing to try new veges after growing some themselves.
How successful was this kit in promoting student ability to identify vegetables? The students were able to recognise vegetables that are common in their household. It was a little tricky with some vegetables as students had never tried them. They still learnt the names and played the card game.
The Little garden league kit is a great way to introduce new vegetables to students. Learning their names was an effective way to get them to try these veges at home. The house that we had to make is really tricky as the box was damaged during transit which make is very difficult to cut and put together. it would be good to have this printed on a thinner cardboard. This will be much easier to cut it.
