In what ways has this kit improved student awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? We are not quite at the eating stage - we have talked about different ways we could cook things. We are excited to see what the Swede turns out like - from a rural school perspective we grow swede for a winter crop so the kids want to know how well it wil
How successful was this kit in promoting student ability to identify vegetables? My class has a fairly good understanding already as most of them have vegetable gardens at home. We learnt about new plants such as borage and have spotted it in a few random places around the school.
We love the Little Garden set. Kids were excited that we got the full set. Lots of conversations around what vegetables they like eating and what they don’t like/ haven’t tried. We are very lucky to have a Vegepod so once they were big enough they went into the Vegepod. From experience doing the kit before the little paper tags get soggy and unreadable so we did use popsicle sticks with the names of the seedlings on them - much more durable.

How successful was this kit in promoting student ability to identify vegetables? Students were fairly confident with identification. Great discussion about the definition of fruit and vegetables.
Really enjoyed using this kit with my year 3 and 4 class following a healthy eating focus. Students were very excited and engaged with the seed sowing and researching recipes, growing conditions needed for their seeds. Unfortunately our kit and badges seemed to arrive a little later than others so seedlings didn't get much growth before the school holidays.

In what ways has this kit improved student awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? Tamariki in general had great prior knowledge around this topic and were eager to share the whys and whats of this area. Great understanding of healthy vs unhealthy and why.
How successful was this kit in promoting student ability to identify vegetables? Many tamariki already had prior knowledge of many vegetable plants, however identification activities did increase their knowledge and was a great opportunity for those who had none or little knowledge.
As always a great wee kit for our tamariki to use.

How successful was this kit in promoting student ability to identify vegetables? Some of the children learned new vegetables but many of them already knew lots of them.
I have previously done the Little Garden Kit with my class 2 years ago and it was hugely successful. This year the class got the little gardens after they were available in store and it meant they were much less engaged in the kit. It was much harder to "sell" them on the idea and keep them engaged as they could just do it at home. I finished working in my class at the end of Term 3 so we did not have as long to delve into the kit as I had in the past but I think the 'magic' never really happened with this class. I preferred it two years ago from a teacher's perspective as I find the current school kit website annoying to navigate and the information less clear and easy to find.

In what ways has this kit improved student awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? How successful was this kit in promoting student ability to identify vegetables? A huge impact - children especially love the names for the vegetables we are growing and this helps so much with identification. Vegetables become more real and personable with names!

How effective was this kit in promoting healthy eating in your classroom?
In what ways has this kit improved student awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? We talked lots about what different vegetables do for our bodies, and students thought the characters were good at helping young learners make these connections.
How successful was this kit in promoting student ability to identify vegetables? We also utilised the New World website at this time and it was really beneficial to us. The students definitely increased their knowledge of vegetables.
I teach Year 0/1 and we absolutely loved planting. We learned about the vegetables and herbs, and the te reo words for each. We connected to maths while we counted days until the plants were coming up, and we worked out if our plants were early or late. We made cross-curricula links and did art, technology, literacy, maths and language. More than this, we sparked an interest in planting and trying new foods.
