What cross curricular learning came about as a result of this kit? The learning was fantastic. It opened up opportunities to discuss caring for our environment and then caring for our world/kaitiakitanga.

In what ways has this kit improved student awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? I am hoping as in previous years there will be students who show or photograph their produce and then talk about any health benefits the vegetable may offer.

How successful was this kit in promoting student ability to identify vegetables? Some students were more interested in looking at others and needing to know what they were growing.

“This is a great initiative and I love the learning that comes from it. The students take pride in caring for their vegetables and love to see and eat the produce it offers. The timing of the kit arriving in Term 3 is perfect and it is easy to place an order. I appreciate you sending an email to remind me to order. The resource is very user friendly!”

In what ways has this kit improved student awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? Students were definitely more willing to try new foods. Some student were surprised by how much they enjoyed foods that they were dubious about before.

How successful was this kit in promoting student ability to identify vegetables? Students knowledge improved significantly through out the unit. The majority of students were able to identify all of the vegetables/characters by the end of the unit

Wow - This was one of the best parts because learners would recognise what they had eaten in the past, what they saw at the shop and what was in their gardens at home (and here in the gardens at school). Tied in with our science sustainability inquiry the team was doing, we also were doing statistics so graphing how many of each seedling using the stickers was a great visual for them to learn the names and different types of vegetables.

In what ways has this kit improved student awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? Showed them how growing your own vegetables is easy (just takes time) and can be done at home - you can try new vegetables from your own backyard.

How successful was this kit in promoting student ability to identify vegetables? Good to see what veges looked like as they were seedlings. We are still in progress with it as only started in Term 4, week 2. The children are very excited to be taking home their seedlings soon and we will keep some at school in the school gardens.

“Love the LGL, it's the second time I have used this kit, but this was the first time I've used it with new entrant/year 1 students (the last time was with year 2/3). The children loved being part of a 'secret' club and watching their seeds grow so quickly. It tied in perfectly with our sustainability inquiry following our unit on honeybees too.”
