In what ways has this kit improved student awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? The kids really enjoyed watching the plants grow. We spoke about growing your own vegetables at home. Some of the kids were keen to taste the vegetables and were proud of the hard work it was to remember to water them everyday!

How successful was this kit in promoting student ability to identify vegetables? This kit definitely helped kids recognise additional vegetables. There were so many new names that we learnt!

Seed classification - bringing in vege seeds and grouping the according to physical characteristics. Reading about Garden to Table. Recipes involving veges - yet to happen due to maturity

In what ways has this kit improved student awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? The students have been following up with 5 plus a day. They have looked at eating a rainbow. When we get the plants to maturity, we will look at garden to table recipes.

How successful was this kit in promoting student ability to identify vegetables? As the plants are still maturing, we have used pictures to relate.

What cross curricular learning came about as a result of this kit? Great for Cross-curricular learning. Reading/ writing/ science/art. We used the kit as part of our reading rotation stations, the students got to have a go at lots of activities and were very engaged.

“My class really enjoyed growing their Little Garden seedlings. They really liked playing the ‘spot this’ game in the kit and learning the names of all the characters. We printed off information about all the characters for them to research their own seedling which they also enjoyed.”

What cross curricular learning came about as a result of this kit? We had many opportunities for writing, and art when it came to our seedlings and caring for them. We were able to use our counting skills when it came to counting seedlings and then subtraction when some didn't thrive!

In what ways has this kit improved student awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? Children were able to identify what vegetables were and how they were healthy for our bodies. They were able to discuss unhealthy food vs our healthy home / school grown vegetables.

How successful was this kit in promoting student ability to identify vegetables? The children loved the supplied game. It was suitable for their age level.

“This was a great experience for the tamariki. We had New entrants so we had to simplify a few things but the tamariki were so excited with their seedlings and their whaanau also were when they took them home. Also another outcome from this is that our classroom now have their own vegetable garden which they nurturing. They have learnt about different vegetables and herbs and hopefully soon enough they will be able to taste some of their healthy kai!”

What cross curricular learning came about as a result of this kit? It was great to learn some of the science behind growing vegetables (5 year olds/ year 1) and also make links to our physical and mental health. Kids loved the challenge of talking to their families about some new vegetables they’d like to try at home.

In what ways has this kit improved student awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? Great conversations about healthy eating, strong bodies, fuelling our brain for learning!

What cross curricular learning came about as a result of this kit? Our inquiry was based on life cycles so the children learnt lots about how to plant a seed and were able to watch it grow each day. We also measured how much they grew, and how long they took to sprout. Great for maths.
