The Little Garden Kit was fantastic in our classroom. The students loved planting the seeds and it was such a wonderful hands on experience. Since planting the seeds, the students have been checking on the plants everyday with excitement of how they have grown. They have also developed their knowledge of many different vegetables and herbs. Such a great, engaging experience for our classroom.

In what ways has this kit improved student awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? Talked about how much energy is needed to create a vegetable/fruit. After the discussions , all the fruit at snack time is now completely eaten instead of lots of whole fruit with only a bite taken out of it going to the compost.
How successful was this kit in promoting student ability to identify vegetables? A lot of new vegetables and plants were researched and found. Many of my tamariki were not sure of quite a few of the plants before this kit.
My kids loved choosing a plant to grow and being able to show kaitiakitanga by caring for it and providing it with what was needed for it to thrive. Once sprouted, we planted the seedling in our māra, hopefully they grow big and strong and we can use the produce for garden to table in the future!

Interestingly, many children had not planted a seed before or tasted many of the vegetables that we were growing. Children loved having the responsibility of looking after their plants and watching them grow was super exciting.

My tamariki and myself love the Little Garden Kit. The potting and caring for our little garden certainly aligns with our Uara, Manaakitanga. It was great to see the tamariki become kaitiaki and showing a real engaging interest in our Little Garden.
