How successful was this kit in promoting student ability to identify vegetables? Definitely got them talking about their vegetable seeds and discussing them. Most children have them at home as New World is one of Cromwell's two supermarkets. The card game was awesome to help build the vegetable name knowledge.
The story of the Little Garden League engaged the children. They loved applying with their application of interest to LGL HQ and posting it in the box. The children were asked to orally share with the class why they want to be involved. All had good experiences or reasons to be involved. They were all very proud when they got their badge.

What cross curricular learning came about as a result of this kit? The opportunities were endless. Here are just a few. They learnt about germination and drew some pictures of their seeds. They wrote stories and did maths to work out how many we had in total. They also counted how many seeds had come up.

How successful was this kit in promoting student ability to identify vegetables? There was much discussion about why they had "white carrots" and what they would taste like.
This was really fun for the children and they enjoyed taking ownership of their own seeds. The wait for them to come up was short enough to keep them interested

This was a great unit where all of the children were engaged in learning about how to grow and nurture a plant and what a plant needs to survive. Every day the children would rush in to look at their plant and take it outside so it could get some sun in order to grow and water them each day. It was interesting to see how some plants grew quicker than others and had different stems and leaves. The children were very excited to this activity.

What cross curricular learning came about as a result of this kit? This kit extended into almost all areas of my class. From technology, where our focus was building natural bird houses, to writing where my students were able to use what they had learnt to write captivating descriptive, narrative and technical pieces.

In what ways has this kit improved student awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? Most of my students have shown more curiosity to try more vegetables. When presented with different types of vegetables most would at least try a bite.

Their knowledge expanded from vegetables they see in their home life to recognising vegetables they had not seen in person before.
This kit fit in perfectly with our Term 3 Junior topic of gardening. This kit allowed me to add an extra layer to this topic in a way that was entertaining, informative, and engaging for my class.

In what ways has this kit improved student awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? Students were well able to discuss which food would give them best energy and keep them healthy. This kit was great. It had lots of practical applications for our current inquiry and tied really well into our "Curiosity (Science) Week". Children have been really engaged. We will continue it into Term 4 to monitor the results
