How successful was this kit in promoting student ability to identify vegetables? There has been some development in realising how many types of fruit and veges there are. Little gardens have helped them take ownership of growing and trying something different
Myself and another teacher run the enviroSchool club at our school. She works with slightly younger children so as a team we decided that she would do it with her class. My son is in that class. He loved the idea of there being a secret club and that he was lucky enough to be a member. He is very proud of wearing his badge. Lots of great feedback from other students. Lots of important learning opportunities for making healthy choices.

What cross curricular learning came about as a result of this kit? It was the perfect topic to cover across all the curriculum areas. We wrote about them, sketched our seedlings used counting the leaves and plants for maths and even attempted to make things to cover our seedlings to keep safe from bugs and weather.

How successful was this kit in promoting student ability to identify vegetables? When some of plants didn't grow successfully I bought in veges for the children to try. They were actually surprised they liked the taste.
My year 1 class has really enjoyed watching our plants grow. They experienced the highs and lows of weather and how it can affect plants and the growing process. Lots of excitement overall. Can't wait to do it all again with my next class.

The little garden kit was incredible. The children loved planting a variety of plants in the school garden. This then encouraged them to try different vegetables they had never eaten before. It was so hands on and lots of fun. Many students who had not been involved showed a keen interest in watching the plants grow and learning valuable skills too.

In what ways has this kit improved student awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? The students were encouraged to include more veges (and fruit) into their lunchboxes each day. We introduced an additional 'read & feed' time where they were just to eat fruit & veges out of their lunchboxes.
How successful was this kit in promoting student ability to identify vegetables? Overall, my students had a good knowledge of vegetables - what they look like and how they grow. We are a high decile school and many families have a range of vegetables with their dinners, and also have vege gardens at home or at grandparent's houses.
