In what ways has this kit improved student awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? As a whole we have had the chance to discuss so many different things nutrition related. The class awareness and comments ... even about their own lunches, is a direct result of the unit.

How successful was this kit in promoting student ability to identify vegetables? Many of the vegetables were unfamiliar before commencing the topic. Now most of the children can name nearly all of the ones that were included in the kit.

“We loved receiving the kit, and working together to learn about growing things. The kit was well received by the class, and had plenty of resources to share and engage all children. Some of the seedlings didn't grow, but some did. It was great to integrate lots of different learning experiences - to give an authentic experience. Lots of predictions, lots of science, some great collaboration tasks etc. and lots of responsibility was needed to make it a success.”

In what ways has this kit improved student awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? Because the whole class were engaged in the planting etc the students were more open to trying new vegetables. Their lunch boxes had less processed food in them and more fruit and vegetables.

How successful was this kit in promoting student ability to identify vegetables? The kit exposed the students to vegetables they had not heard of. We also learned about the parts of a plant we eat.

“Absolutely loved this kit and so did the kids. The hands-on nature of it was perfect for my Year Ones. Great ignition for a Plant Inquiry.”

How successful was this kit in promoting student ability to identify vegetables? I was surprised with the fact that many veges were not ones my children had experience of - had never seen/ did not know the names of/ or had not tried them - so it certainly widened their horizons

“We really enjoyed our kit...although we had a delayed start in getting cracking we carried on with gusto...we looked at different veges and herbs than what we already familiar with, we looked at how and when they grow, and how we could use them nd eat the different types.”
