In what ways has this kit improved student awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? The children tried a variety of cooked and raw veggies, they picked and ate from our school garden and made a shared meal to end the topic. Overall, parent feedback has been positive, with the children being more willing to try some of the veg they serve
How successful was this kit in promoting student ability to identify vegetables? The children in my class are 95% ELL. The varieties of veggies that would have been unfamiliar to kids who have always lived in NZ proved very difficult for these children to identify, therefore the veggie patch match game was pitched too high
This kit provided everything I needed to start a term long gardens project with my year 2s. They were collecting the seedlings at home as well and enjoyed the extra special challenges and secret codes. Lots of children tried and enjoyed veggies they had never tasted before

In what ways has this kit improved student awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? Massively - because they all now know the real value of vegetables (health benefits etc) but they also aren’t scared to try new vegetables now because they have and have discovered that that in fact quite like them.
How successful was this kit in promoting student ability to identify vegetables? Massive impact. Students could see the difference in growing quickly so loved that being juniors. They really enjoyed taking responsibility for their pod and measuring and watering etc.
Absolutely loved it - students and teacher!.

What cross curricular learning came about as a result of this kit? Digital technologies. We don't use digital tech in my year 2/3 class but for the little gardens we paired up with the year 7/8 class. They each planted one and then they had to research what it looked like and what it needed to grow etc on the computer.

In what ways has this kit improved student awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? Some of the children were excited to try their vegetables when they grew and said they hadn't had that veg before.
How successful was this kit in promoting student ability to identify vegetables? Ours haven't grown up so at the moment this hasn't really changed too much. Hopefully in the new year it will though.
The children loved planting the little gardens and really enjoyed working with older students to do it. A few of them have been regularly checking on the plants as well to watch them grow. We still haven't planted ours in the garden yet as this term has been so busy it has been hard finding time with the other class that we worked with. Were the kits available earlier last year or maybe I just didn't see an email until later but I think it was too late this year as we are now running out of time to watch them grow. I still think they are a great idea though and will definitely order again (in fact I just tried to reserve a farm bricks one but couldn't as they have all gone.) Thank you for making these things available to schools. It's such a valuable resource. I work at quite a structured school so there isn't too much time for going of script and doing things like this especially how we wanted to do it, with another class. This has meant things have taken longer and there has been less time to focus on our kit than I have been used to in the past.

In what ways has this kit improved student awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? This linked with our inquiry of healthy eating, so children were able to explore this concept further. They were excited to talk about the fruit and vege that were in their lunchboxes.
How successful was this kit in promoting student ability to identify vegetables? A lot of children didn't know what a lot of the vegetables were, so it allowed us to explore that more.
The children Yr 0-1 absolutely loved their little garden's kit. There were plenty of resources for all the children to use and they were all engaged in the learning. The loved being part of the process of raising their plant and were excited to come to school to see how much had grown. They were able to continue their learning and take it home to plant in their own gardens.
