What cross curricular learning came about as a result of this kit? I have a learning through play environment and children were making planting boxes from a range of resources. We were going to do some cooking but cicumstances meant it didn't happen. Great for writing, maths too

In what ways has this kit improved student awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? They know that healthy food gives them the right 'fuel' for their energy. Willingness to give a new food a go is encouraging

How successful was this kit in promoting student ability to identify vegetables? Children were introduced to new vegetables and it was encouraging to see their interest

“This kit was highly motivating. We completed it in Term 4. Children loved being part of the club, planting seeds, watching them grow, taking them home to plant out in their own gardens,learning about different vegetables.....and watching the tortoise enjoy eating his feast!”

In what ways has this kit improved student awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? Students are having conversations about what's considered healthy and why vegetables are healthy. These conversations were not happening prior to the kit.

How successful was this kit in promoting student ability to identify vegetables? Students had very limited knowledge of vegetables and this kit allowed them to develop their knowledge in a fun, hands on way.

“Children knew what they were already and were excited to plant and explore the resources. Came with various activities peaked the interest of students and we could set up to allow them to explore. We were able to plan in order to incorporate into multiple areas of the curriculum i.e. science, literacy, mathematics. Ngā mihi! :)”

In what ways has this kit improved student awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? Students were learning and engaged regarding why we need plants and what the do to keep our body and mind strong - from the actual eating (impact on healthy body) and what gardening can do for your mind (calming, relaxing, reducing stress etc).

How successful was this kit in promoting student ability to identify vegetables? They were very excited to look and find out what vege they got - this lead to discussions re: what the vegetable was, what it could be used for and how to grow it.

What cross curricular learning came about as a result of this kit? Maths - measurement. Writing - we managed to do some narrative, persuasive and informative reports using this as a topic.

In what ways has this kit improved student awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? They were able to see how easy it is to grow your own produce. Less waste as no packaging and able to compost parts not eaten.

How successful was this kit in promoting student ability to identify vegetables? Significant improvement made. A lot of students struggled to name more than 5 vegetables at the start.

“The kit is so easy to use and the class was so engaged. They loved joining part of a special club and took it very seriously. It was lovely to see how their knowledge about vegetables grew over the weeks and how they got their whānau involved at home too.”
