What would you say the impact of this kit has been on your students? This kit provided so many text to world connections, text to text connections and fostered fantastic classroom discussions around so many issues in connection with this topic. A great springboard for some student led inquiries, espcially over the concerns

Which resources were most engaging and most useful to students? The students love all the recreated maps, certificates, and flags. That is always the highlight - displaying these around the room for students to engage with.

“This was a really fun kit. It took a minute to get the students thoroughly engaged. Some students were really into while others were not. I appreciated all the teacher support materials to build my own knowldge and I feel if I used this kit again (which I intend to) I would do a much better job the second time around. As always these kits are highly engaging and students are getting high quality learning from them.”

What would you say the impact of this kit has been on your students? Prior to this kit my students knew nothing about nuclear free NZ. They had no knowledge to draw on at all. Now they can hold a conversation on the topic and form ideas and opinions.

Which resources were most engaging and most useful to students? Students loved the mix of resources. So much variety to engage every member of the class. And plenty of ideas for me to use in other planning.

How did this kit build awareness and understanding of the NZ Navy and it's contributions to our history? One of the best conversations we had was to try to identify the motives of the Navy being in the Pacific at the times of the Nuclear Tests. The students made great connections between the artifacts to infer motives.

What would you say the impact of this kit has been on your students? I copied the kit so that each group of 5 had their own version- this allowed more interactions within the class. They enjoyed poring over all the resources and trying to figure out where each piece fit into the big picture.

The badges were initially most exciting but it was the combination of the artifacts and the excellent website by the museum which was most useful. I had students cross referencing their artifacts and the website- using sticky notes to record thoughts on t

Looking at the photographs allowed the students to have a sense of connectivity w

The wall display and making connections with their own family past and the impact that the NZ Navy especially had on making NZ a safer place was a powerful learning tool.

How did this kit build awareness and understanding of the NZ Navy and it's contributions to our history? As we are from Central Otago - we haven't really had much interaction / knowledge of the Navy. However the children really engaged with the site and understanding the importance of their role in the Pacific and nuclear free stance.

What would you say the impact of this kit has been on your students? It showed that normal / ordinary people can make a difference. They can be listened to and when something is important like minded people come together and be a 'voice'. That NZ has led the world in a few ways- nuclear free and Suffragettes.

Which resources were most engaging and most useful to students? Loved the artefacts and physical resources. The website - all in one place, spotify, etc... Something for everyone . Children liked the videos of early sailors and their life.

What would you say the impact of this kit has been on your students? This has sparked many more questions and we have decided to continue to broaden our scope of inquiry into next term too.

Which resources were most engaging and most useful to students? They loved it! And so did I. We loved the kit and so glad that we have started this inquiry.

“This has been a great kit to get some passionate debate going, especially amongst my senior students. We have also linked this in with our study of the local history curriculum. Our school is relatively close to where the Rainbow Warrior now lies underwater and my husband recently dived on the wreck so we looked at the footage that he took. This kit was also very useful to me as I only came to NZ in 2007 , although I remember some of the events globally.”
