We were able to construct and change different events as we gained more information and knowledge of the subject. “This kit was a fantastic way to explore New Zealand history and nuclear testing in the Pacific. My students loved organising the materials and reading through each section, discussing what viewpoint we were looking at each time and New Zealand's standpoint on the testing over time. The Navy website was interactive and beneficial to our overall inquiry - the end result on our timeline looks fantastic! Getting started was tricky - as a first time school kit user, I wasn't sure where or how to begin. However, once we started, it was easier to piece things together. My only suggestion is that some of the materials weren't age appropriate for learners at the level I was teaching (Year 8) - some of the newspapers included articles about topics that students didn't need to read. We ended up cutting these sections out prior to giving the materials to our students.”

What would you say the impact of this kit has been on your students? The students enjoyed the Rainbow Warrior history and where it lyes today. They loved that it happened in our backyard and how Kiwis conquered the French! The political side was quite in depth and allowed challenge for the students that wanted / needed it.

Which resources were most engaging and most useful to students? The online sites gave great information about a huge range of topics. Loved the music cassettes!!

Which resources were most engaging and most useful to students? I thought the timeline was engaging as it could be displayed in the classroom for students to refer back to.

“It was great to see students in my class research their tickets and place them on the timeline. We then looked to see if there were any patterns of where their tickets were placed and discussed if they were in the correct category. Students then created a slideshow with key facts about their chosen event. Resources and website were useful too!”
