Which resources were most engaging and most useful to students? Large Timeline, cards/pictures -links to history online.
“Hi there Im sure we submitted a review last year. Our kids really enjoyed this one as they didn't know anything about being nuclear free or the damage to the pacific ocean and surrounding slands. One child even discovered her grandfather had written a book about his experiences of being in the navy during the nuclear testing. The visual timeline was a great way to 'see' events that took place which let to plenty of discussion too. We had lots of discussion and discovery and this kind of inquiry is enjoyed by the class. It was a very honest recount of the Rainbow Warrior disaster and good to see recent NZ history rediscovered. Parents loved it as the conversations went home. Thanks yet again School Kit Ali McCartie Waitetuna School”

Which resources were most engaging and most useful to students? Not sure. Different students were impacted in different ways. They enjoyed using the resources then researching them more.

Which resources were most engaging and most useful to students? The trip to the museum fitted in beautifully and we went up to visit the tunnels as well.
“A fascinating kit. A bit trickier than others to access especially if you are a teacher who did not live through this history in NZ. We were a bit overwhelmed by the fantastic resources. A teacher's completed timeline doc as a guide would be useful when helping children put the events on the class timeline. a vicit to the museum finished this off really well and the children knew we were going so were more engaged.”

How did this kit build awareness and understanding of the NZ Navy and it's contributions to our history? Students were aghast at the lack of protection and understanding of how being so close to the blast might affect the sailors. Photos and accounts of 'x-ray hands' made it very real to them.

“Engaging and accessible resources, great for hands-on learning as well as class displays. Interesting activiites - the students particularly enjoyed the timeline activity and being able to use primary sources that were authentic facsimiles, with lots of variation. Great that it was themed - made the website and sources easy to navigate and place within a timeframe.”
