“We didn’t really get time to dabble in heaps of this kit. The kids got to look at different types of Pepehas and the events that tied in with them. The bonus was all of the amazing treasures that were included in the kit. They loved the mahi that went into making this kit: thank you.”

“This Kit was amazing! We didn't completely finish it but we picked aspects which fit into what we were already covering in class so our students' could make connections. The online resources were fantastic! I loved the mixture of audio, photos and readings as these were very engaging. The students' loved using clues from the post cards to work out the locations. The added physical resources were also engaging!”

How has this kit impacted your confidence in delivering the new Aotearoa NZ's histories curriculum content? It provided a hands-on oppurtunity to deliver the curriculum the way it should be done. It has given me a lot of confidence to deliver this well going into 2023.

“This kit is absolutely fantastic. I really like how there were so many engaging, interesting stories about what had happened in such a wide variety of places throughout New Zealand. The places acted as fantastic prompts for critical thinking about the events that had occurred and allowed many students to apply this thinking to other places in our local area.”

How has this kit motivated you to explore the history or your local area? Could you use this model? We started to look into local histories as a class and look at what shaped the Waikato. I would look at using the same model for this next year.

It has given me the confidence to know I can use this resource each year and build on my knowledge of Aotearoa history. How has this kit motivated you to explore the history or your local area? Could you use this model? It has motivated me to do more with the children around the history of NZ. We learnt about our local history and linked some information from around NZ and the children were able to connect with the stories and this captured their attention.

“The children and I thoroughly enjoyed the kit as it offered a wide variety of material and content. It was a great starting point as we were focusing on our local history and the children not only learnt about our local history but it tied in nicely to compare with some of the history throughout NZ. We used the resource over 2 terms, but we could have extended it as the there was a lot of material to learn about. Thank you for the great resource we all really enjoyed it.”

“We found it quite hard to know what to actually do with this kit. While the historical photos and items were quite cool, the teaching and planning sequence wasn't clear. We did not end up using our kit really at all. Some clear, sequenced lesson plans would be helpful for next time and some differentiation ideas.”
