There's always the fear that you might teaching something in a way that is offensive to others, but knowing that their view was considered in the resources makes it a lot easier.

“The tool itself contained beautiful resources and alligned with the curriculum really well. I found it a bit challenging for my Y5/6 students as the language and concepts were rather high level. Also the reliance on computers posed a bit of a problem as we don't have enough for all students. It was useful in creating teachable moments though. For example I discovered that my students were not faniliar with the concept of Polynesian and so we were able tk talk about that and I planned other classes to support that learning.”

“I found the physical kit to be really good, it provided students with questions about the events which happened in out past (we covered the land marches and te reo march) and gave them any ways to create their own inquiries. The only part that I thought was a little confusing was the website, students had to be explicitly guided around to ensure they understood what they doing and or some students found the format hard to read the information on the chromebooks.”

“the students usually talked about the picture itself before actually trying to understand that it could be a part of the some information that had happened. We could only go through a few of them . How has this kit motivated you to explore the history or your local area? Could you use this model? Initially we chose be picture and learned of the waitaki area then we became more strategic. The kids loved the unveiling of the image and how the mihi disclosed more.
